Liverpool fans admit to lack of knowledge about transfer target Fernandes

[ad_pod ]

Several Liverpool fans have admitted that they have no idea who Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes is amid their club’s interest in the Portugal international.

Fernandes, who has been linked with both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur throughout the transfer window, was reported to have emerged as a target for the Reds by Sport Mediaset journalist Pietro Balzano Prota on Twitter.

The 24-year-old scored 32 goals for Sporting in all competitions in 2018/19, while also registering 18 assists, as the club won the Taca de Portugal and the Taca de Liga.

Primarily an attacking midfielder but someone who can also play a deeper central role or on the wing, as per his outings last season, Fernandes’ record suggests he would offer a genuine attacking threat from the middle of the pitch next season were he to move to Anfield over the next few weeks.

But a number of supporters have admitted that they have no idea who the star is, having never seen him play in the flesh.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Manchester United fans react to Barcelona links to Victor Lindelof

[ad_pod ]

After arriving from Benfica as a highly-rated young centre-back, Victor Lindelof has endured a mixed career at Manchester United so far.

The Sweden international seemingly took a while to adjust to the pace and physicality of English football but has delivered some impressive performances in between too.

Now, after reports in recent weeks suggested Matthijs de Ligt was perhaps on his way to Juventus, Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona are considering a move for Lindelof as an alternative to missing out on the Dutchman.

The news saw United fans take to Twitter and many were adamant that the 24-year-old should not be sold this summer.

Red Devils supporters insisted Lindelof was their only good centre-back and jokingly enquired whether the Catalan giants would be interested in taking either Chris Smalling or Phil Jones instead.

Indeed, some United fans hoped the Swede would remain at Old Trafford next season after being one of the few players in the squad who “has pride playing for the club”.

Rangers fans left delighted by the signing of Joe Aribo

[ad_pod ]

Midfielder Joe Aribo has been unveiled as Rangers’ latest signing of the summer transfer window.

Steven Gerrard has already signed players such as Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones to his squad, but has wasted no time in adding a central midfielder to the mix.

Watch the video below to see the most insane overhead kick you will see this week…

Aribo was a major part of Charlton’s promotion success in English League One last season, scoring ten goals from midfield, but has decided against extending his contract at the club to make the move to the Scottish Premiership.

The Ibrox boss told the club’s official website that he hopes Aribo can be the kind of box-to-box player that can “unlock defences” next season.

Rangers are now only a few players away from having a very competitive squad across all positions on the pitch and fans are delighted with the progress being made in terms of recruitment.

Many feel that Aribo will be a very good signing indeed, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the news…

The Chalkboard: Three areas Helder Costa has to improve in to revive career

[ad_pod ]

Last week Express & Star claimed that Helder Costa was wanted on loan by Leeds.

The talented forward has endured a torrid time in the Premier League since being promoted with Wolves in 2017/18, scoring just once as he was pushed behind the dynamic Diogo Jota in the pecking order.

Costa was once one of the best players in the Wolves squad, possessing incredible amounts of talent and potential. However, playing at a higher level, he’s not been able to display the type of performances we had become accustomed to.

One of the first of a bunch of Portuguese players to arrive at Molineux, he’s now merely a peripheral figure.

It’s no surprise to see a possible loan move away on the cards, but if he is to revive his career he’ll need to improve in three key areas.

On the chalkboard

Considering Wolves’ lack of squad depth it’s a damning indictment that Nuno Santo sees him as surplus to requirements.

A loan move away could do him the world of good but if he doesn’t improve in certain areas it’s difficult to see him ever fitting into Nuno’s starting XI.

The 25-year-old was once a constant threat in attacking phases of play, contributing to 18 goals in his first season in English football.

His next season saw him rack up 11 goal involvements but in 2018/19 that’s shrunk to just three. The need to get better in the final third is evident.

Crunching the numbers, the amount of crosses he makes per game has taken a drastic hit. In 2016/17, he was making 1.6 a match. Last term that was at a measly 0.1. Given Jota’s creativity, this simply has to improve if Costa is to find a route back into Nuno’s side.

Is it unrealistic to expect another top half finish from Wolves next season? HRH discusses in the video below…

As for shots per game, the Portuguese also got himself into less scoring positions. During his first campaign in England he’d average 1.8 but in the Premier League it has decreased to just one.

In terms of key passes, improvement will also have to be made. During the forward’s first year he cut teams open with 1.7 passes a match but that figure is now only 0.7.

In the Championship, it’s clear Costa is a brilliant player. If he makes a loan switch to Leeds, he can use that to his advantage to potentially work his way back into favour at Molineux.

Southampton fans react as ex-target James Maddison shines vs Manchester City

[ad_pod ]Former Southampton target James Maddison shone for Leicester City in their narrow 1-0 defeat against Manchester City on Monday night, and Saints fans were quick to react his display on Twitter.Sky Sports reported in June 2018 that both the south coast outfit and the Foxes had agreed a fee with Norwich City for the playmaker, but the Midlands-born star opted to move to the King Power Stadium in the end.The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at this level, scoring seven goals and providing a further seven assists in 35 Premier League outings.

He was once again an impressive performer against the English top flight holders on Bank Holiday Monday, in what was a strong display on the road from Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Southampton ended up signing Stuart Armstrong from Celtic last summer – who was presumably the alternative option given his preferred attacking midfield position – but it has been a tough campaign for the Scot.

Has Jack Stephens unfarily been made a scapegoat at Southampton? The Ugly Inside discusses in the video below…

The 27-year-old has netted three times and laid on two assists in 29 Premier League matches, with all of those goals coming in the space of a week towards the end of 2018.

Saints supporters took to social media to have their say on Maddison’s showing, and while one said “and we got Armstrong”, another described missing out on him as “so frustrating” following another standout performance.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

The Verdict: Should Manchester City sign Harry Maguire for £90m?

[ad_pod ]

It has recently been reported by The Sun that Manchester City are keen to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester, although they may have to top the world-record £75m fee spent on Virgil van Dijk by Liverpool in order to land their man with the story saying it would take £90m to convince the Foxes to sell.

The east Midlands outfit signed the England international from Hull back in 2017 for just £17m, so if the Cityzens did stump up that kind of cash for the 26-year-old, the 2016 Premier League champions would be getting a massive profit on the centre-back.

However, is he worth more than Van Dijk? And should City spend that kind of money on the former Sheffield United man? Football FanCast’s writers have their say on the matter…

Relive all the drama of Man City v Spurs through the eyes Spurs’ fans in the video below…

Matt Dawson

“City would be absolutely foolish to spend that much on Harry Maguire. I know the club don’t exactly have any issues when it comes to finances but considering City already have an incredible backline, spending £90m on Maguire would be ridiculous. The centre-half was fantastic at the World Cup last summer and that was probably when his stock was highest. For me, he’s been slightly underwhelming this term. He’d still get into most teams in the Premier League but not for that absurd price tag.”

Harry Sherlock

“Maguire had a good World Cup but he’s absolutely not of the required ability to play for Manchester City. They pride themselves on having ball-playing defenders and Maguire is only really good at heading the ball and tackling. Pep Guardiola needs more and should be looking elsewhere, particularly if the asking price is £90m.”

Luke Glanville

“In my opinion, Manchester City should sign Harry Maguire regardless of the price tag. Money doesn’t matter too much to the Cityzens and they’ve shown in recent seasons that huge defensive investments can work out. He could thrive alongside John Stones and build a very strong all-English partnership at centre-back, with the pair knowing each other well from Gareth Southgate’s squad. The centre-back veterans at the Etihad Stadium, such as Nicolas Otamendi and Vincent Kompany, will need replacing at some stage and this would be the perfect way for City to do it.”

Portsmouth: Promotion dream hinges on form of striker Omar Bogle

The League One promotion race saw yet another twist at the weekend as the top four sides drew ever closer to each other.

Luton Town and Barnsley both dropped points on their travels which therefore gave Sunderland and Portsmouth the chance to capitalise in the hunt for the top two positions.

Goals from Lee Cattermole and Will Grigg gave the Black Cats all three points at the Stadium of Light whilst Pompey were also victorious, beating Scunthorpe United 2-0 at Fratton Park to move within four points of automatic promotion.

Kenny Jackett’s side had to be patient against an Irons side who are in danger of relegation this season yet the all important breakthrough was made by a player who could be vital to their dreams of Championship football next season.

Omar Bogle’s 77th minute strike was his fifth goal in eight games since joining the club on loan from Premier League side Cardiff City with the forward illustrating signs that is returning to the kind of form which saw him shine during his time at Grimsby Town.

The 26 year-old scored on 19 occasions for the Mariners whilst playing for them in League Two in 2016. His excellent record in-front of goal saw him earn a move to Wigan Athletic yet he was unable to stop the Lancashire club from being relegated to League One in 2017.

Despite this setback, Bogle’s individual performances saw him stay in the Championship by securing a move to Cardiff City. However, since joining the Welsh club last season, the forward has struggled to establish himself for the Bluebirds which has resulted on him being loaned out on three occasions, with the latest being his move to Portsmouth in January.

Jackett’s risk of signing a player who had only scored five goals in 37 appearances over a period of two years did lead to concern amongst supporters at the time yet it seems to have paid off so far.

The early stages of the 2018/19 campaign saw the club develop an over-reliance on  Jamal Lowe yet it seems that by bringing in a forward with a similar skill-set as the winger, Jackett has solved this issue.

With eight games to play in League One, Pompey know that if Bogle can double his tally to reach double figures by the end of the season for the club, they will certainly be in contention for a top-two finish.

What do you think Portsmouth fans? Can Bogle fire you to a top two finish? Or is it more likely that you will finish in the play-off positions at the end of the season? Get in touch below.

Everton have shown interest in Diego Llorente

Everton fans will have truly been disappointed with how some of their defensive players have turned out this season, despite reinforcing the department with a number of big names.

The Toffees continue to ship goals and find it difficult to keep them out the back of the net, even with the likes of Yerry Mina, Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane all involved.

However, it appears Marco Silva will try and address the situation in the summer as it appears he has identified a possible target.

What’s the News?

According to a report by Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Everton have shown some interest in Real Sociedad’s Diego Llorente this season.

The Spain international has been solid for the La Liga outfit over the last couple of campaigns and continues to impress, despite a difficult time at Real Madrid prior to his move to the Basque outfit.

However, it is claimed that Everton could have to battle fierce rivals Liverpool for his signature, with the Anfield outfit allegedly keen on the 25-year-old as well.

The Verdict:

Everton fans must be wondering what could have been if all the defenders they currently have at the club were playing to their full potential and to the standard many would have expected.

With Zouma set to return to Chelsea in the summer following the conclusion of his loan deal, the need for a new centre-back at Goodison Park will have only been further highlighted.

And, Llorente could be an excellent addition to the Toffees in the summer if they are able to prise him away from Real Sociedad.

With the player having a release clause of €50million (£42.8m), Silva may have to splash out big to land him, although going based off his performances this season, he would be an immediate upgrade to some of the options the club currently has.

The 25-year-old would also be able to feature in a defensive midfield role, which could be handy for Everton, whilst he also appears to have a knack for finding the net, although he is yet to do so this season following the seven he got in the last campaign across all competitions.

Everton fans, do you think Llorente would be a good signing for your club to make and would be able to improve the defence immediately? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
