WHAT HAPPENED?
Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer brought high expectations. However, the French forward has had to adapt to a central striker role, given that Vinicius holds his position on the left wing. After a difficult start to his life in the Spanish capital, the 2018 World Cup winner has gradually settled into his new position. With time, he has also developed a better understanding with his Brazilian teammate, but the pair remains under scrutiny as speculation continues to brew about the bond they share off the pitch.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Both Mbappe and Vinicius were criticised following their unimpressive performance in the Champions League last-16 first-leg clash against Atlético Madrid, where neither was able to make a significant impact. But former Real Madrid player and manager Valdano believes that they are naturally goal-oriented, which can sometimes hinder their ability to link up effectively and has nothing to do with their personal relationship in the dressing room.
WHAT VALDANO SAID
Speaking on Movistar's , Valdano said: "They are two players who have a better relationship with the opposing goal than with the game, than with the association. They are accused of not finding each other, but that has to do with their characteristics. They are two great sprinters and they have the goal between their eyebrows."
Interestingly, he suggested that at times, they overcompensate by deliberately seeking each other out, even when a better option might be to take a shot themselves.
"What's more, sometimes I have the feeling that they exaggerate the search for each other when the play calls for a shot instead of a pass," he continued. "In fact, it seems that in order for them to be considered innocent, they look for each other more than they should."

Valdano, who has worked with some of the greatest forwards in history, compared Mbappe and Vinicius to Brazilian legends Ronaldo Nazario and Romario. He emphasised that certain types of attacking players excel when focused purely on scoring, rather than being expected to contribute extensively to build-up play.
"It is also said that Vinicius and Mbappe do not run enough, but it is impossible for these players to run with endurance efforts," he said. "I trained Romario and I had Ronaldo at Madrid, and making them run around the field was a Chinese torture. They couldn't, they couldn't. What's more, if you played a possession game they would completely ignore it. Now, you put a goal against them in training and they were the best in the world. What you have to do is exploit what they were bought for."
Valdano went on to dismiss that Mbappe and Vinicius may not have the strongest personal relationship, asserting that personal friendships are irrelevant to how players link up during matches.
"The accusation that they are not sufficient friends because they do not seek each other out does not fit," he said. "I am not going there. I do not know what degree of complicity they will have off the pitch, but the fact is that complicity is not obligatory in the locker room. I have known very difficult relationships between players, but on the pitch they understood each other because there was a footballing harmony."

Phil Parkinson's men will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Peterborough in the semi-final of Football League Trophy.
A £15,000 a week player is looking to seal a move away from Leeds United in the January transfer window, according to a new report. The Whites have had a testing time with injuries this season, but that hasn’t affected Daniel Farke’s side too much on the pitch, as they sit just three points behind leaders Sunderland before their game against Millwall on Wednesday night.
Farke must drop James to unleash Leeds star who's on a "different level"
The Leeds United star has not had many opportunities to shine from the start.
ByDan Emery Nov 6, 2024 Leeds United news
The Yorkshire side have seen some important players ruled out with injuries already this season, one being midfielder Ethan Ampadu. The Welshman has been out injured for over a month now, as he suffered the knee injury in the 3-0 win over Coventry City back in September. He isn’t expected to be back yet, but Farke has confirmed that Ampadu is ahead of schedule and could be back sooner rather than later.
“He’s working hard, already doing some running. It will be a while before he can join us in team training; he’s even a bit ahead of schedule. I’m carefully optimistic he can return to team training a bit earlier. We will see.
“Normally, it would be realistic to be back in training in the middle of December and then available in the beginning of January. It would be nice if he can help us already a bit earlier and sooner because he’s our captain and a versatile player. We would love to have him back, but we won’t rush it. It was a serious injury. He’s a bit ahead, but let’s see how it develops.
Meanwhile, Leeds are being linked with a move for midfielder Lewis O’Brien, as the midfielder is currently on loan at LAFC but could return to Nottingham Forest in January. He is a player who Leeds have tried to sign before, and they could look to do so once again. But while the focus may be on arrivals, it seems one player is keen to leave Elland Road in the New Year.
Joe Gelhardt looking to leave Leeds in January
According to MOT Leeds News, Joe Gelhardt wants to seal a loan move away from Leeds United in January. The 22-year-old came through the academy at Wigan Athletic, and after impressing, Leeds decided to snap him up in 2020, but it is a move that has yet to work out.
Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt.
Gelhardt, who earns £15,000 a week at Elland Road, has featured a lot for the Yorkshire side but has yet to get a run of regular minutes under the current manager, failing to start under Farke in the Championship this season. The forward has appeared just three times this season in all competitions, totalling 72 minutes of football.

This report states that Gelhardt has become frustrated with his lack of game time, and having joined Sunderland for six months in the 2022/23 campaign, it seems he wants another loan move in January.
One of the most exciting players to watch in the Premier League so far this season has been Aston Villa’s attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers.
The 22-year-old, who joined the club from Middlesbrough last January for upwards of £16m, has been a crucial player for Unai Emery this term.
So far in seven Premier League games, the attacker has scored once and has two assists to his name. A superb ball carrier, Rogers has completed an average of two dribbles per 90 minutes, at a success rate of 47%.
He has been pivotal to Emery’s side, with his quick feet and power when carrying through the lines helping them become such an attacking force.

This season, there has certainly been extra responsibility on Rogers and co, who earns £20k per week, after some big names left Villa Park in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Villa’s 2024 summer sales
There were two marquee departures for the Villans last summer, namely winger Moussa Diaby and midfielder Douglas Luiz. French international Diaby made the move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad, for a fee of £50m, just one year after moving to Villa Park for almost £52m the previous summer.
Moussa Diaby for Aston Villa
In another shocking move, Luiz left Villa to join one of the giants of European football, Italian outfit Juventus. The Brazilian joined the Turin outfit for a fee in the region of £21m, with Englishman Samuel Iling-Junior and young midfielder Enzo Barrenechea going the other way.
It is believed the deal to sell such an important player coincided with the need to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, with a loose deadline being the 30th of June.
There were two other notable sales for Villa this summer, including Cameron Archer who left just weeks after rejoining the club. He moved to Southampton following his transfer from Sheffield United. Youngster Tim Iroegbunam also left the club to join Everton.
Whilst some of these signings have enjoyed a good start at their new clubs, Luiz has found life on the pitch in Turin tough so far.
Luiz’s stats at Juventus so far
26-year-old Brazil international Luiz was superb for Villa, so losing him in the summer was a big blow for Emery, no matter how unavoidable it was due to PSR regulations.
He was a key player for the Midlands club, playing 206 times, scoring 22 goals and grabbing 24 assists from midfield. He helped the club return to the Champions League last term.
However, life in Turin simply has not worked out like that so far for the former Girona player. Luiz has played eight times for the Old Lady, missing just one game as an unused substitute. On the flip side, however, he has just one start under his belt so far.
So far, the Brazilian, who has 18 caps for Selecao Canarinho, has played more than 45 minutes in a single game once, completing 67 minutes in the Serie A in a 0-0 draw away to Empoli. Aside from that, the most minutes he has played in one match is just 29, in the Champions League.
Incredibly, the former Villa man has played just 222 minutes in total in Serie A and the Champions League, at an average of 27.75 minutes per game. He has played the equivalent of just 2.46 full 90 minute games.
Given his excellent performances in that famous Claret and Blue shirt of the Villans, that is surely not how he expected things to work out in Turin. Luiz, who earns £134k-per-week, as per Capology, over six times more than Rogers, was described as among the summer signings who are “struggling” by football presenter Dougie Critchley.
AstonVilla'sDouglasLuiz
It has been a frustrating start to life in black and white stripes for the midfielder, who has even been branded a ‘flop’ by Italian media, having given away a penalty in successive games against RB Leipzig and Cagliari.
The former Villa hero will be desperate for his career in Italy to pick up soon, or he may well wish he was still on the books back at Villa Park.

Aston Villa have fallen victim to a transfer blunder by offloading this star.
Sheffield Wednesday are “looking to hand a new contract” to an Owls “animal” who has become a key player under Danny Rohl, according to an update from reliable journalist Joe Crann.
Sheffield Wednesday overcome poor run
The Owls felt on top of the world when they thumped Plymouth Argyle 4-0 at Hillsborough on the opening weekend of the Championship season, suggesting that a potentially glorious campaign lay ahead after surviving by the skin of their teeth last term.
However, Rohl’s side suffered a huge reality check in the weeks that followed, consistently losing matches and finding themselves down towards the bottom of the table. There were even some doubts creeping in about the manager, who had shone so much until that point, but Wednesday have now got through their dip in form.
The Owls have picked up seven points from their last three Championship outings, starting with a thrilling 3-2 victory at home to West Brom, with the Baggies top of the table going into that match.
A solid goalless draw away to Bristol City was followed up by a last-gasp 2-1 triumph at Coventry City last time around, as Wednesday jumped to 15th place in the table. It remains to be seen how high they can finish this season, but the top half should be the aim, rather than worrying about another relegation battle.
Sheffield Wednesday want new deal for "animal"
According to the reliable on Crann on X, Sheffield Wednesday want to give Akin Famewo a new contract at Hillsborough, with his current deal expiring at the end of this season:
This is a no-brainer for the Owls, with the £7,300-a-week Famewo becoming an integral member of the defence, starting five Championship matches so far this season.
He has averaged 3.6 clearances and 3.2 interceptions per game in the competition in that time, which is a higher tally than any of his teammates, and former Wednesday manager Xisco Munoz once said of him:
“I don’t really see him as a left-back or not, but he is an animal. He was our best player in the duels. He is strong, he plays forward, he understands the situations, and he is one of the guys who is closest to what the Championship demands.”
At 25, Famewo is at a great point in his career, picking up plenty of experience but still likely having his peak years ahead of him, and the hope is that he sees his future with the Owls, rather than wanting to move elsewhere on a free transfer in 2025.

United midfielder Mainoo has impressed in recent matches for the club, particularly alongside summer signing Manuel Ugarte. Now, Red Devils head coach Amorim has warned the 19-year-old not to believe he is the "finished product" and to focus on improving his game.

He told reporters: "I think Kobbie Mainoo is improving a lot during the last matches, I think you guys [the media] feel like Kobbie Mainoo is the finished product – he is not, he has so much potential to grow up even more. He is really, really good but he can be so much better. I think he is improving, all the players are improving, all the players are important for me, no matter what."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
United and Mainoo are in a contract impasse at present, but Amorim is desperate for the 19-year-old to extend his stay at Old Trafford. If the Red Devils are unable to strike a new deal, with the England international's terms running until 2027 plus the option of an extra year, Chelsea are waiting in the wings to pounce. An intriguing period lies ahead for the United academy product on and off the field.

PSG tipped to move for OlmoBarcelona at risk of losing summer signingContract registration still unresolvedFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?
After links with Arsenal and Manchester City this month, PSG are now reported by to be keeping tabs on Olmo's bizarre situation at Barcelona. The French giants have been tipped to make a move if things are not resolved in Catalonia, with PSG coach Luis Enrique already familiar with Olmo from the Spain national team setup.
AdvertisementGetty ImagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE
Olmo's future is only uncertain because of Barcelona's continued financial strife. The Euro 2024 winner joined for €60 million (£50m/$63m) from RB Leipzig last summer but couldn't initially be registered in accordance with strict La Liga salary limits until the club were able to offset Andreas Christensen's wages due to injury. But with the Dane returning to fitness, Barca are back to square one unless they can raise the necessary revenue. A legal challenge to try and force Olmo's registration has already failed, which is a desperate blow given the possibility of the player walking away as a free agent.
DID YOU KNOW?
Barcelona will remain financially hamstrung as long as they stay on La Liga's harshest spending rules, allowing them to only reinvest a fraction of money received or saved. The club has been rumoured several times in recent months to be close to returning to normality, but that has yet to materialise. These limitations are also why Ilkay Gundogan was let go on a free transfer and why Nico Williams was out of reach last summer.

Leeds United are a matter of days away from kicking off their 2024/25 Championship season as they prepare to face off against Portsmouth at Elland Road on Saturday.
The Whites will be looking for a fast start to the new campaign after they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League back in May, losing 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley.
Daniel Farke is now hoping that it is second time lucky for his side as the German goes in search of his third promotion out of the second tier, having won the title twice during his time with Norwich City.
The West Yorkshire outfit's hopes of promotion have been dealt a blow by the exit of winger Crysencio Summerville, though, as the forward has joined West Ham United on a permanent deal this month.

The former Feyenoord youngster, as shown in the table above, was a constant menace to opposition defences in the league last term and Leeds are looking to dip into the market to secure his services.
Leeds eyeing up Premier League winger
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Whites could pursue a deal to sign Crystal Palace wide man Jesurun Rak-Sakyi before the end of the window.
The reporter claims that fellow Championship sides Sheffield United and Hull City are both trying to secure his services on loan for the 2024/25 campaign, whilst Queens Park Rangers have also been linked.
Nixon adds that Leeds could come in with a move for the 21-year-old whiz if they do not sign Jonathan Rowe from divisional rivals Norwich City.
Football Insider recently reported that the Whites have already had an offer of £7m quickly rejected by the Canaries for the England U21 international.
The outlet added that the Yellows are set to demand a fee of at least £15m for their academy graduate, who has one year left on his current contract at Carrow Road – with an option to extend that by a further year.
This means that Leeds offered less than half what Norwich want for the impressive winger and it could, therefore, be a difficult deal for Farke and his recruitment team to get over the line.
However, the German boss could forget all about raiding his former club for Rowe by securing a deal to sign Rak-Sakyi from Palace instead.
Jonathan Rowe's form for Norwich
Firstly, it is easy to see why Leeds are interested in signing the Canaries youngster to bolster their options on the flanks in the wake of Summerville's move to the London Stadium.
He's a young and proven Championship performer who could come in and hit the ground running at Elland Road, whilst also having the potential to improve and develop over the years to come – at the age of 21.
Rowe is someone Farke could work with on the training pitch to help him fulfill his potential but he is also an excellent player who could make an instant impact on the pitch.

As you can see in the table above, the 21-year-old dynamo was a goal threat for the Canaries in the second tier last term, in his first full season at senior level.
12 goals from an xG tally of just 5.36 also shows that Rowe's finishing was exemplary. He rarely wasted a high-quality chance to find the back of the net, scoring almost seven more goals than expected based on the quality of opportunities that were created for him.
However, the English gem did not provide much in the way of creativity. The Norwich youngster made less than one key pass per game and only created one 'big chance' in 32 outings during the regular season.
This suggests that Rowe would be unlikely to replace the creativity Summerville displayed on the flank, with his nine assists in the Championship.
Whereas, Rak-Sakyi is a player who could come through the doors at Elland Road with the potential to make an impact as both a scorer and a creator of goals.
Why Leeds should forget about Rowe
Instead of splashing out a staggering £15m to sign a player from one of their Championship rivals, the West Yorkshire side could save their money and land a loan deal for the Palace youngster as a potentially better alternative.
Rak-Sakyi is coming off the back of a frustrating season where he was used as a squad player for the Eagles – making just eight first-team appearances.
rak-sakyi-crystal-palace
He did, though, fire in four goals and provide one assist in three U21 matches for the Premier League 2 side, which offered a glimpse at the quality he can offer.
His form at academy level for Palace has always been strong. Rak-Sayki has scored 24 goals and assisted eight in 40 U21 games for the club, along with eight goals and eight assists in 17 U18 matches.
The left-footed ace, who was described as "remarkable" by Roy Hodgson, has also showcased his attacking quality in senior football with Charlton on loan in the 2022/23 campaign.

As you can see in the table above, Rak-Sayki was a star for the Addicks with his ability to score and create goals, with 23 direct goal contributions in 43 matches.
Albeit at a lower level, the Palace youngster outscored Rowe and provided far more creativity for Charlton than the Norwich whiz did in the Championship last season.
Rak-Sakyi's statistics at academy level and in League One suggest that the potential is there for him to offer more than the £15m-rated Leeds target at the top end of the pitch, due to his goalscoring prowess and creative quality.
