Newcastle Transfer News: Kieran Tierney "Might Still Come In"

Newcastle United could still make a move for Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney despite rival interest from a European club and the addition of Lewis Hall, according to pundit Frank McAvennie.

Why would Newcastle need Hall and Tierney?

Earlier this month, Eddie Howe made it clear he wanted to sign one more player this summer, in order to have the "ideal depth" in his squad, and the manager has now gotten his wish, with Chelsea's Hall joining on loan, with an obligation to buy.

Hall has arrived at St. James' Park for the season, and Newcastle must pay £28m plus £7m in add-ons to sign him permanently, with Howe seemingly bringing the 18-year-old in to play at left-back, having been in the market for a new option in that area of the pitch throughout the summer.

However, Jacob Whitehead makes it clear in his piece for The Athletic that Hall is not just a left-back, favouring a box-to-box midfield role, so Howe could choose to utilise him in a left-sided number 8 position.

However, Howe has seemingly brought the youngster in to strengthen his defence, which means there may be no reason to bring Tierney in on loan, having previously identified the Arsenal ace as a target.

Even so, pundit Frank McAvennie believes the Magpies could make a late swoop for the Scotland international, who he thinks can do a lot better than Real Sociedad, with the Spanish side recently being named as potential suitors.

In an interview with Football Insider, McAvennie said: “I think he is better than that.

I think he is a better player than Real Sociedad. He is just not getting a game because of the way they are playing at Arsenal, it is nothing to do with his injury.

I do not know what has happened with Newcastle because I thought he would have gone there. I think they might still come in, I would not be surprised if he ended up going to Newcastle.

Is Kieran Tierney joining Newcastle?

Although the Scot could be another fantastic option for Howe at left-back, having been hailed as "sensational" by journalist Nizaar Kinsella, it seems very unlikely that Newcastle make a move for him in the final week of the transfer window.

Howe has made it clear that he is working under "tight constraints", as the club need to abide by Financial Fair Play rules, and he has already signed Hall, in what will eventually be a £35m deal, so the manager has no reason to bring in another left-back.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal have always insisted on a £30m fee for the 26-year-old, so he is likely to be unaffordable, with the Magpies already shelling out €153m (£131m) on transfer fees this summer, not including the £35m they will need to pay for Hall.

If the Chelsea loanee cements himself as a central midfielder, rather than a left-back, Newcastle could revisit a deal for Tierney in the future, but the former Celtic man may have already left Arsenal by that point, so it is now very unlikely he moves to St. James' Park.

Tottenham: Spurs Seal "Perfect" Replacement For Star

Journalist Mitch Fretton believes "very smart" new Tottenham Hotspur signing Ashley Phillips could come as the "perfect" replacement for Wales international Joe Rodon.

Who have Spurs signed?

So far, new manager Ange Postecoglou has watched a quartet of new arrivals officially come through the door this summer, namely goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, midfielder James Maddison, winger Manor Solomon and Phillips.

The latter player is very highly-rated and could well work his way into becoming a top Spurs player for years to come, with Phillips putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.

He could also soon be joined by both Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg and Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz, as reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has given his famous "here we go" to both moves.

Postecoglou, who has his eyes on two senior central defensive additions this summer, could yet add the likes of Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba before September 1.

Reliable outlets like The Evening Standard have backed this up most recently, but it will largely depend on outgoings, with Rodon being one of the Spurs players who have been told they can leave.

"Signing two senior centre-backs this summer has not been ruled out by Spurs," wrote journalist Dan Kilpatrick in The Standard.

"Although they are still to offload the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon, who are among the squad players to be have been told they can find a new club."

Rodon spent the 2022/23 season on loan at French side Rennes, and it looks like he may well depart Tottenham after three years in north London. Former boss Jose Mourinho signed him from Swansea City in 2020.

Fretton, who writes for WhoScored and contributes as a member of the media team for Colchester United, believes Tottenham have a ready-made replacement for the Welshman in Phillips.

The journalist wrote on social media:

"Levy may have waited to save a few million quid, but Ashley Phillips is a very smart signing and a player with a high ceiling. The perfect Rodon replacement but hopefully he will be much better than what he was."

How good is Ashley Phillips?

The 18-year-old, after joining Blackburn from National League North side Curzon Ashton, quickly progressed through the club's youth academy – eventually managing 14 senior appearances for Rovers last term.

Former Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray, now in charge of Sunderland, once heaped praise on Phillips for his physicality and potential to be a world-class player.

“He’s an amazing footballer and he is going to be a mega footballer I’m pretty sure, but he’s a very young boy," exclaimed Mowbray in 2021.

“He’s a 6’3, 6’4 magnificent cut of a guy, fast as lightning, composed with the ball, aggressive. I think this football club have a footballer on their hands, and we have to manage his introduction into our team as best we can. I just brought him to give him some experience.”

The England Under-19 international comes with plenty of pedigree as an exciting youth player and supporters will be hoping he can evolve into a mainstay.

Nottingham Forest: Romano drops big "in the coming days" update

Nottingham Forest former loanee Dean Henderson 'will' return to the City Ground on a permanent basis this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Is Dean Henderson going to Nottingham Forest?

According to Telegraph Sport, Nottingham Forest are 'locked in talks' to try and bring Henderson back to the City Ground on a permanent deal following his loan spell at the club in 2022/23.

The report states that Henderson is their preferred goalkeeping target if a fee can be agreed between themselves and Manchester United while Wolverhampton Wanderers stopper Jose Sa is an alternative target.

Last term, £100k-a-week earner Henderson made 20 appearances for Nottingham Forest and managed to keep six clean sheets, as shown by Transfermarkt.

Manchester United are expected to strike a deal to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, which will then offset Henderson's exit according to talkSPORT, who claim on Twitter: "BREAKING: The deal to sign André Onana is now set to be sealed in the next 24 hours to allow him to join MUFC on their US tour. Dean Henderson is then expected to be sold to Nottingham Forest. – talkSPORT sources understand."

Evidence that Henderson could be set to exit Manchester United is further supported by the fact that the Red Devils are keen on bringing in Urawa Red Diamonds stopper Zion Suzuki, according to respected journalist Romano, who recently revealed on Twitter: "Manchester United are working on Zion Suzuki deal. Japanese goalkeeper is one of 3 options as backup GK and talks are now taking place on player side."

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano has indicated that Henderson's pending transfer to Nottingham Forest is close to being completed.

He stated: “For sure United will bring in a new backup goalkeeper because the intention is to let Dean Henderson leave for Nottingham Forest in the coming days.

"There is still a conversation between United and Forest on the final fee.

"But I think in the end Henderson will become a Nottingham Forest player and they will bring in a new backup goalkeeper.”

Who else are Nottingham Forest keen on bringing to the City Ground?

Nottingham Forest are fond of a transfer incoming at the City Ground and it wouldn't be a surprise to see a few more arrivals in the East Midlands before competitive action gets underway this campaign.

The Scottish Sun claim that Rangers full-back Borna Barisic could be on his way to Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £2 million after betting charges were brought against Harry Toffolo by the FA that are expected to result in a ban for the 27-year-old.

Burnley loanee Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

90min report that Nottingham Forest alongside Fulham are leading the chase to sign Manchester City youngster Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who enjoyed an excellent campaign for Burnley last term as they cruised to the Sky Bet Championship title.

Southampton striker Che Adams is a target for Nottingham Forest; however, the Tricky Trees will face competition from Everton, Burnley and Leeds United for the Scotland international, as per TEAMtalk.

His current employers are open to initiating a sale this window to avoid losing him on a free transfer when his contract runs out at St Mary's Stadium in 2024.

Liverpool interested in Raiola agency star "better than Bellingham"

Liverpool are 'interested' in making a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch this summer and could be emboldened in their pursuit as the German champions may need to sell players to fund a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane, according to journalist Christian Falk.

Is Ryan Gravenberch joining Liverpool?

Talking live on talkSPORT Radio via TEAMtalk, journalist Dominic King claimed that Gravenberch is a player that is on Liverpool's radar, stating: “Ryan Gravenberch at Bayern Munich who they’ve had a long-standing interest in. They were of the belief that Bayern Munich wouldn’t want to let him go; they think an awful lot of him. “But I think the fact that they’re still looking at him at Liverpool suggests that he’s somebody that they could (move for)."

As per The Guardian, Liverpool midfielder Fabinho looks to be edging nearer to a £40 million move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad and it has been suggested that the Reds could turn to one of Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips, Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat or Bayern Munich bit-part player Gravenberch to succeed the Brazilian enforcer in the holding role.

Negotiations have also progressed regarding club captain Jordan Henderson and his prospective move to the Gulf region to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, as per Football Insider, signifying that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will need to dip into the market to acquire more depth in the engine room.

Melissa Reddy, who is a reporter for Sky Sports, revealed numerous midfielders that Liverpool are assessing as potential additions on Twitter, writing: "Lavia and Gravenberch have long been considered by LFC (regardless of current situation), with their reps spoken to. Other players they've looked at: Nicolo Barella, Khephren Thuram, Florentino Luis, Joao Palhinha, Teun Koopmeiners… They do love a surprise, stealth signing."

Gravenberch, who is "better than Bellingham" according to Rafael van der Vaart, was predominantly used as a substitute last term for Bayern Munich, registering one goal and a solitary assist in 33 appearances, as per Transfermarkt.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Falk has signalled that Bayern Munich could let Gravenberch go following a change of circumstances regarding his status within Thomas Tuchel's squad and also to help raise funds to land Tottenham striker Kane.

Falk stated: “They are interested. There were talks in the past. But they got feedback that Bayern Munich currently don’t want to sell.

“But this could change because, last Saturday, training started at Bayern Munich and there will be competition. Leon Goretzka, the German international, is playing in the same position. So, Thomas Tuchel can decide who will be his first choice.

“After that, Bayern will have to sell players because if they want Harry Kane, he’ll be expensive. So, this could be a topic in the next few weeks.

“Currently, Bayern Munich will see everybody in training, including Goretzka and Gravenberch. Marcel Sabitzer was also at the medical test.

“They must sell if they want to get money from a club. In this case, it can be interesting.

“Gravenberch’s management has already held talks with AC Milan. There was also a meeting in Amsterdam about how they plan the future. So, this topic is still hot.”

Who else could help to reshape Liverpool's midfield if not Ryan Gravenberch?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made no bones about his desire to strengthen his engine room this window and has already added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton & Hove Albion and RB Leipzig, respectively.

Southampton star Romeo Lavia is on the German's radar at Anfield, though Arsenal are seriously interested in the Belgium international and will push the Reds to the end to try and acquire the youngster, according to Football Insider.

Southampton's Romeo Lavia

The same outlet have surprisingly thrown Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure into the ring as another potential signing and they are believed to be 'exploring' a move for the Mali international.

CaughtOffside revealed that Rennes winger Jeremy Doku is attracting interest from Liverpool amid competition from Aston Villa to sign the 21-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano Reveals Final "Detail" As Arsenal Close In On Deal

Arsenal still need to agree the yearly payment structure over the fee for Declan Rice, but once this is finalised, the deal will be completed, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

What's the latest on Rice to Arsenal?

Arsenal have fought off interest from Manchester City and now appear very close to securing a record-breaking transfer for the West Ham captain.

The Gunners initially had two bids rejected, but a mega-offer of £100m, with £5m in add-ons, has been deemed acceptable as an overall package.

However, Romano has revealed that the structure of the payments of the initial £100m is still yet to be agreed, with West Ham wanting the payment made in less time.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano indicated that this would be the final hurdle before officially completing the deal.

"There is an agreement on the fee, £100 million plus £5 million in add-ons, a club record fee for Arsenal, a historical fee for English football as Declan Rice is going to be the most expensive player ever.

"It's just a matter of hours probably, but it's just about the payment terms. As I told you, Arsenal want to pay in four years, and West Ham want the £100 million guaranteed fee to be paid in 18 months. So he's about this detail, then the deal will be done."

What will Rice bring to Arsenal?

The England midfielder will come at a high price, but Arsenal are investing in a signing who could help them challenge at the top level for years to come.

Rice will arrive as an experienced Premier League captain, with European experience under his belt, and fits the age profile that Mikel Arteta has targeted in the last few seasons.

At 24, he can form a midfield trio with Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz for the next few years, and he can help replace the leadership void which will be left if Granit Xhaka leaves the club.

Rice could play as both a number six, in front of the back four, and further forward, and this tactical flexibility will be something Arteta can use when setting up his team for bigger games.

The Englishman ranks highly for interceptions as per FBref, and his presence in the middle when facing tough opponents could give Arsenal an extra aggressive edge, something which they often lacked over the years.

He is a signing that can help Arsenal bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City, as they attempt to challenge for the title again, and beating their rivals to the signing is a huge statement of intent from the club.

Newcastle Plotting Raid For £40m Star With A "Nasty Streak"

Newcastle United are plotting a raid to bring Leeds United star Tyler Adams back to the Premier League, according to reports.

Is Tyler Adams leaving Leeds?

The Whites’ defensive midfielder only made 26 appearances during his debut season at Elland Road after joining from RB Leipzig due to spending a large spell on the sidelines through injury, but despite not being able to prevent relegation, he was the real standout player when available.

The United States international was Sam Allardyce’s best-performer with a WhoScored match rating of 6.73, so whilst he still has another three years to run on his contract, his remarkable displays have grabbed the attention of top flight sides, notably Eddie Howe and PIF.

The Telegraph recently reported that St. James’ Park officials were hugely impressed with the 24-year-old’s character and combative nature when he visited the northeast, and it sounds like they are now weighing up a more concrete approach that would see him switch the opposition for the home outfit.

Are Newcastle signing Adams?

According to Football League World, Newcastle "have their eyes" on Adams, alongside his Leeds teammate Brenden Aaronson ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. The Magpies have placed the duo firmly "on their list" of targets, but it's believed that the former is the "more likelier" to join because he would be able to give more freedom to Bruno Guimaraes.

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams.

Newcastle will be aware that Adams is stronger in the natural defensive midfield aspect of his game having recorded zero goals or assists at Leeds, but with the protection that he would bring to the backline as well as his personal qualities, PIF should certainly test the waters.

The World Cup participant, who’s sponsored by Nike, ranked in the 99th percentile for midfielder tackles and the 97th percentile for blocks last season, via FBRef, with his physical presence and desire to commit to challenges seeing him described as a player with a “nasty streak” by journalist Josh Bunting.

The YMU Group client, who has the versatility to operate in seven various positions across the pitch, would also bring wonderful leadership qualities to the centre being the USA’s captain, which will no doubt be yet another attractive attribute to Howe.

The Athletic have reported that Leeds are demanding £40m to part ways with Adams which is a lot considering that they now find themselves in the second-tier, but when thinking about the positive impact he could have on the side, that would be a fee worth paying.

Arsenal Could Get Deal For £100m Star Done "Quickly"

Arsenal could get a deal for Declan Rice done "quickly" if they place a "competitive offer", according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest on Declan Rice to Arsenal?

According to a report from Football Insider, Rice has now informed West Ham and Mikel Arteta that he plans on joining Arsenal this summer, having already held discussions about a summer switch away from the London Stadium.

The Gunners have been laying the groundwork on a deal for months, which could amount to close to £100m, and the move could even be completed within the next week, if a fee can be agreed.

Now that the 24-year-old has verbally agreed personal terms with the north London club, the last remaining hurdle is coming to an arrangement with West Ham, and Jacobs has now offered an update.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, the CBS reporter said: "Arsenal will want to move fast to make sure another suitor doesn't come in because [Mykhailo] Mudryk wanted to join Arsenal and he joined Chelsea. Rice has a priority of Arsenal, but there is still a deal that needs to be done with West Ham and because Arsenal are disciplined to protect their model, the only fear at this point will be that West Ham are bullish because they somehow get a bidding war.

"For now, if Arsenal move fast and place a competitive offer, they may be able to get this one done quickly because Rice has a strong desire to settle his future early, and West Ham accept that he will leave the football club for the right offer."

Is Rice joining Arsenal?

As pointed out by Jacobs, it is by no means a foregone conclusion the Gunners win the race for the England international, as they have previously missed out on Mudryk, despite the Ukraine international making it clear he wanted to join.

However, Mikel Arteta appears to be very well-placed to sign the West Ham captain, and there are strong indications he would be a top-quality addition to the squad, in light of his performances last season.

declan-rice-west-ham-arsenal-transfer-gossip-edu-arteta-rodri-guardiola

Hailed as "unbelievable" by members of the media, the Englishman won the Hammer of the Year trophy in the 2022/23 campaign, which was very well-deserved, given that he averaged the highest WhoScored match rating of any West Ham player in the Premier League.

Rice led the Hammers to success in the Europa Conference League, making three tackles and winning four of the six ground duels he contested in the final, and he should now be ready to make the step up to the Champions League.
