Papers in Manchester believe INEOS are lining up "transformational" manager

Manchester United are plotting a move for an out of work manager to replace the under fire Erik ten Hag, according to a new report. Ten Hag has come under severe scrutiny in recent weeks as the Red Devils endure a disappointing start to the season. It is just three wins from their first 10 games of the season in all competitions, and that has placed the Dutchman under so much pressure that there is a possibility he loses his job in this international break.

Fewer touches & passes than Onana: 4/10 Man Utd star should be dropped

Manchester United battled against Aston Villa to take home a point.

Defeat last week to Tottenham Hotspur saw pressure crank up on ten Hag, and it was stated he had games against Porto and Aston Villa to save his Old Trafford job. But draws in both games haven’t done much to change the general feeling, as throwing away a 2-0 goal lead in Portugal and lacked any threat in front of goal against Villa.

The Red Devils have already been linked with a handful of managers who could replace ten Hag at Old Trafford. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is already at the club, has been backed by a former chief scout at United to succeed ten Hag. Meanwhile, Inter Milan’s Simeone Inzaghi was another name mentioned as an option, but it appears a move to Old Trafford now looks unlikely midway through the campaign.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was another manager who emerged on the club’s radar last week, but it is unclear how interested United would be in the Englishman. While there was a new name mentioned on Monday morning, as United allegedly see Xabi Alonso as their top target to replace ten Hag, even being prepared to wait until the summer to get the Spaniard.

Man Utd plotting move for UCL winner to replace Erik ten Hag

According to local press however – specficially Manchester Evening News – United are lining up a move for Thomas Tuchel. This comes as it was reported at the end of last week that United were ready to resume talks with the German about taking over at Old Trafford.

Tuchel, who was described as being “transformational” by Statman Dave, has long been admired at United, as he was of interest to the club during the summer. Now, the fact that he is still out of work puts him high up on the list of potential new managers.

The report states that the Red Devils do admire other candidates who are attached to clubs, but the attraction to Tuchel is that he is immediately available. United officials are expected to conduct meetings between Monday and Tuesday, and ten Hag is expected to hold discussions with the hierarchy in the coming days.

"Decisive" Fulham forward now set to miss multiple games after injury blow

Ahead of the visit of West Ham United, Fulham have been hit with frustrating injury news which has ruled one forward out for multiple games including the clash with the Hammers.

Fulham injury news

The Cottagers have shown glimpses of their quality so far this season, with their one victory over Leicester City arguably coming at an important time in between a narrow 1-0 loss against Manchester United and a frustrating draw against Ipswich Town. Marco Silva’s side are a difficult side to judge these days.

Avoiding relegation will still be their first goal, but it wouldn’t be absurd to suggest that Fulham are now in position to set their sights on causing a few shocks towards the Premier League’s top-half. Just last season, they found themselves sat in 13th and just two points shy of the top 10. A repeat of such an achievement or potentially more would undoubtedly receive rightful applause around Craven Cottage.

Fulham’s first task will be to get back to winning ways in a London derby against West Ham, which they’ll be forced to do without the attacking impetus of one player. As confirmed by Silva, Carlos Vinicius will now miss the West Ham game through injury and is also likely to miss Fulham’s Carabao Cup tie against Preston North End on Tuesday.

The forward should feel particularly frustrated about the Preston game, given that it represented a chance to make his first appearance of the season. Ruled out, however, the Brazilian must now wait for an opportunity to come his way in the Premier League.

"Decisive" Vinicius is at a crossroads

After failing to get his move away amid links to the likes of Red Bull Bragantino in the summer, Vinicius finds himself at a slight crossroads. Whilst Fulham are yet to find a like-for-like replacement for Aleksandar Mitrovic over a year on from his departure to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, Vinicius seems unlikely to emerge ahead of Raul Jimenez and particularly Rodrigo Muniz.

Making the former Tottenham Hotspur loanee a third-choice under Silva, he may be left with little choice but to pursue a January departure. Whether Silva would be keen to part ways with the forward is another argument in itself though, having praised Vinicius’ performance against Luton Town last season.

Silva said via West London Sports: “He made the impact that we needed in that moment on the pitch, not just because he scored – but of course scoring is always the most important thing for a striker.

“It was nice to see Carlos score. He deserved the chance to go in and it was nice to see him be decisive for us. The competition (with Raúl Jiménez) is also important to us.”

Of course, Muniz proves that form will earn a place in the current Fulham side, but whether Vinicius can finally find his goalscoring touch at Craven Cottage remains to be seen.

Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch has undergone knee surgery with the recovery expected to take eight to 10 weeks as he aims to be fit for the T20 World Cup.Finch missed the recent Bangladesh tour having suffered cartilage damage ahead of the series in West Indies. He managed to play the five T20Is in the Caribbean but aggravated the injury in the final game.Related

Aaron Finch faces knee surgery as uncertainty over T20 World Cup captaincy looms

Having completed his mandatory two-week quarantine upon returning to Melbourne, Finch had the operation on Thursday with a Cricket Australia statement saying it was successful.”His recovery is expected to take 8-10 weeks meaning he should be available for the opening games of the World Cup in mid-October,” the statement added. The longer end of that timescale will push things tight for Finch with Australia’s involvement in the tournament due to begin in the final week of October. It is expected that tentative plans for warm-up matches against Afghanistan and West Indies will be cancelled due to logistical challenges with some players returning from the IPL which will be also be staged in the UAE ahead of the World Cup.Finch was one of eight potential first-choice players Australia were missing in Bangladesh where they were beaten 4-1 (the same margin they suffered in West Indies) including being bowled out for their lowest T20I total of 62 in the last match. If fit, Finch will be expected to open alongside David Warner at the World Cup.In Finch’s absence, Matthew Wade captained the side in Bangladesh where, like many of the batters, he had a lean time. Pat Cummins, the official Australia vice-captain, will be part of the World Cup squad.Australia have lost their last five T20I series, against England, India, New Zealand, West Indies and Bangladesh, having previously climbed to No. 1 in the rankings.Their planning has been disrupted by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on player availability but the results have also raised questions about the depth available especially in the batting. They have never won the T20 World Cup with their best performance being a runners-up finish in 2010 when they lost the final against England in Barbados.

'It's the type of person I am!' – Harry Kane reveals inspiration behind changed penalty technique after spot-kick earns Bayern Munich win at Monchengladbach

England captain Kane has converted from 12 yards on 10 occasions for club and country this season. He has not fluffed his lines over a dead ball since missing the target for the Three Lions in their World Cup clash with France in December 2022.

Kane was all about power at that point, as he regularly slammed the ball into the back of the net. The 31-year-old has tinkered with his run-up over the last 12 months, with a stutter added that allows him to spot any early movement from the goalkeeper.

WHAT KANE SAID

That routine served him well against Gladbach, with Kane telling afterwards of why he changed his approach and how he has perfected it: “I normally do it every week, the day before a game. It’s the type of person I am, to keep improving and always try to keep the keepers guessing. It’s been a good run of penalties but, as always, it’s about the process and the mindset and thankfully it was another one that hit the back of the net.”

Kane’s strike sealed a hard-fought 1-0 win for Bayern in their latest Bundesliga fixture, but he saw the fewest touches of any outfield player. The 31-year-old added on why that is no cause for concern: “I don’t think I’m starved of touches. It’s about being effective when you do have the ball, creating chances and getting in the right areas. You are going to have games like that. On Wednesday I might touch the ball 100 times and not score and not effect the game, so it’s more about how you effect the game with the touches you have.”

Ben Duckett signs with Brisbane Heat for BBL 2021-22

Heat expect the batter to be available for the entire tournament, which begins on December 5 at the SCG

ESPNcricinfo staff07-Sep-2021Brisbane Heat have signed England top-order batter Ben Duckett for the upcoming Big Bash League season. This will be the 26-year old’s first experience of the BBL, although he did spend some time with the Horbart Hurricanes three years ago while they were on a tour of the UAE.Duckett has played 129 T20s since making his debut in 2012. Known for an aggressive style of play, the left-hander has 19 scores of fifty or more in the format to go with a strike-rate of 135. He also finished the recently concluded men’s Hundred competition as its second-highest run-getter, with a tally of 232.”I’m looking forward to getting out to Brisbane and hopefully helping the team have a great season,” Duckett said in a press release on Tuesday. “I know friends and colleagues have told me what a great team environment it is and how passionate the fans are at the Gabba and on the Gold Coast, and I can’t wait to experience this all for myself.”Heat kick off their BBL 11 campaign on December 6, against Sydney Thunder, and will hope their new addition helps them go even better than last time when they fell one step short of making the final.”Ben fits the bill for the type of player we were looking to inject into the Heat squad this season and we’re excited to welcome him to Brisbane,” head coach Wade Seccombe said. “He brings something a little different to what we have had in the squad, being a left-hander who also bats in the top order.”He has played a lot of first class, List A cricket and T20 in England despite being a relatively young man and enjoyed a significant deal of success along the way. We’re looking forward to further tapping into that potential to give us an important addition to our line-up.”

McKenna must drop Szmodics to unleash 23 y/o Ipswich sensation

Ipswich Town will be looking to claim their first victory of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign this weekend, as they travel to face Brighton and Hove Albion this afternoon.

Kieran McKenna’s side have drawn one and lost two of their opening three matches this season, losing to title challengers Liverpool and Manchester City before drawing to Fulham last time out.

However, they face another tough task against Fabian Hurzeler’s side, with the Seagulls unbeaten after wins against Everton and Manchester United before drawing to Mikel Arteta’s side before the international break.

The 31-year-old German claimed the Manager of the Month award for August, further highlighting the impressive start he’s made to life in England.

As for McKenna, he may need to make one brutal call if his side are to come away with all three points from the South Coast this afternoon, dropping one player from the starting lineup.

Why McKenna may drop Szmodics for Brighton clash

Forward Sammie Szmodics arrived at Portman Road in an £11m deal from Championship side Blackburn Rovers during the transfer window – joining with high expectations after his campaign last season.

The Irish international scored 27 goals in 44 league outings last season – finishing the campaign as the division’s top scorer.

He wasted no time in making an impact for the Tractor Boys, scoring on his first start against Pep Guardiola’s City side – earning him a start for the clash against Fulham.

The 28-year-old failed to make an impact on the game in his 81-minute display, unable to register any attempts on goal, whilst also managing just 24 touches and completing 62% of the passes he attempted.

It’s undoubtedly been a promising start to his Ipswich career given his goal against the defending champions, but he may be forced to make way for one player who could make his first league start for McKenna’s side this weekend.

The man to replace Szmodics against Brighton

Winger Jack Clarke signed for Ipswich late on in the transfer window, completing a deal rising to £20m from Championship side Sunderland.

The transfer saw the 23-year-old become the club’s joint-third most expensive signing in their history, behind fellow new additions Jacob Greaves and Omar Hutchinson – with real excitement forming around the move.

Clarke, who’s previously been dubbed as “unplayable” by former Arsenal ace Adrian Clarke, made his first league appearance for Ipswich in the draw with Marco Silva’s side – replacing Szmodics late in the day, but he could be handed a start instead of the Irishman at the AMEX.

Given his huge transfer fee, it’s highly unlikely that the former Tottenham Hotspur talent will be utilised as an impact player, with the youngster able to provide serious quality to McKenna’s frontline.

His record of 19 goal contributions for Sunderland last season is an example of the quality he possesses, aiding the club’s chances of securing an immediate return to England’s second-tier.

The international break has given Clarke to settle into life in East Anglia, with this weekend’s game the perfect opportunity to hand the big-money signing his first start for the club.

West Ham now eye 2025 move for £27k-p/w ace dubbed "the new Mohamed Salah"

West Ham United have been linked with an audacious move in 2025 to sign a man dubbed in some quarters as the next Mohamed Salah, it has been reported, as they look to back Julen Lopetegui in the transfer market.

West Ham snatch Brentford draw

Though still without a win in four games, West Ham came from a goal down to snatch a draw against Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium in their most recent Premier League outing, and their performance suggested that improvement, and a rise up the Premier League, could be on the way. Tomas Soucek scored their only goal as they managed a 1-1 stalemate, but Lopetegui was keen to take the positives from the situation.

“We balanced the match in the first half and in the second half, in my opinion, we were better than them. We deserved to win, but we drew as we had a lot of situations to do better in the last pass, in the last cross, when we had a very clear situation”, he admitted after the game.

“We were able to change the match against a very good team at home, so we have to highlight this, to keep the good, positive things. We are with one win very close with a lot of teams, a lot of big teams, so I think that I have tried to highlight the positive things and to highlight the positive reaction in the second half when we worked as a team, and it is very important for us.”

But their goal returns remain a concern, with the club having scored just six so far and their three recognised strikers having combined for just one of those. Having missed out on Jhon Duran over the summer, it is clear that they still need reinforcements, and now they have identified a potential new striker at the London Stadium.

West Ham eyeing "next Mo Salah"

That comes as Football Transfers report that the Hammers are eyeing a potential move to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush in 2025 as they look to bolster their attack.

The Egyptian stayed in the Bundesliga after Nottingham Forest failed with a bid over the summer, but reports in Germany claim that he still dreams of a move to the Premier League, and that his current side will not stand in his way should a suitable offer come in for his services.

Though there is no release clause in his contract, he will be down to the final two years of his £27,000 a week deal come next summer, which means his value will likely decline from that point unless he pens fresh terms.

Lost the ball every 3.4 touches: Lopetegui must now drop 5/10 West Ham star

He lost the ball every 3.4 touches

An up-and-coming Egyptian international playing in Europe’s top leagues, he has been touted as the “new Mohamed Salah” who could take the Premier League by storm if and when he makes the move.

It is claimed that “West Ham are keen” on adding him to their frontline, with the club poised to lose Michail Antonio and Danny Ings in the next year. No price tag is mentioned, though Forest’s summer offer of £25m was deemed a “joke” in German reports, suggesting a much higher fee may be required to prise him away, especially if he continues his strong form this season.

Revealed: The £73k-per-week midfielder Arteta dreams of signing for Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta personally dreams of signing a “very creative” midfielder, with the Gunners set to be front of the queue for his services next year.

Players linked with moves to Arsenal in 2025

The north Londoners and sporting director Edu Gaspar are already making transfer plans for next year, despite being fresh out of the summer transfer window with £100 million spent on five new additions.

£136 million Brazil international could now be offered to Arsenal

The South American superstar would be quite a capture.

ByEmilio Galantini Sep 25, 2024

While the likes of Mikel Merino and Raheem Sterling arrived to contribute further forward, the bulk of Arsenal’s new signings were brought in to bolster Arteta’s defence, so the club could look to add more attacking flair in 2025.

After missing out on a deal for RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, who Arsenal made an offer for alongside both Chelsea and Man United, Arteta chose to keep faith in makeshift option Kai Havertz to lead the line – as he attempts to end their 21-year wait for a Premier League title.

However, that isn’t to say they aren’t monitoring new centre-forward options for next year, with Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram, Sesko and Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres among the strikers linked with moves to Arsenal in 2025.

Arsenal also couldn’t agree a deal for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, despite agreeing terms with the Spaniard (Fabrizio Romano), but it is believed that Edu could go back in for Garcia – regardless of Neto’s arrival on summer deadline day.

There have even been rumours that Arsenal could be offered Real Madrid star Rodrygo in a swap deal for defender William Saliba, although the Gunners are highly unlikely to accept this as he is a crucial player for Arteta.

Mikel Arteta dreams of signing Florian Wirtz for Arsenal

According to The Boot Room, Arsenal’s manager has a real preference in mind when it comes to transfer targets – Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

Germany’s sensation played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s run to the Bundesliga title last season, and is attracting interest from elite European sides as a result.

Arteta is obsessed with the idea of signing Wirtz for Arsenal, as per TBR, and it is believed they will be right at the very front of the queue for his signature next year with the 21-year-old expected to leave.

The £73,000-per-week attacking midfielder won’t come cheap, though, as he will command a price tag of around £125 million.

“Florian is just a huge asset for this team through his carefree nature,” said former Germany boss Hansi Flick. “He’s simply an outstanding technician, loves to play, is very creative, has a good shot, runs hard and is quick. He’s got a good total package.”
