BCB confirms Bangladesh will also host England and New Zealand in 2021

Following news that Australia will tour Bangladesh ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup, BCB’s chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury has said that they will also host England and New Zealand. He, however, said that formal announcements will only be made once the tour dates are confirmed by the boards.Chowdhury had said that Australia would play three T20Is as well as a two-match Test series in Bangladesh. But since CA and BCB couldn’t quite fit in the Tests, they have found time for an extra T20I match.”Both boards (CA and BCB) have agreed in principle for Australia’s tour of Bangladesh before the World Cup T20, which is going to be held in October,” Chowdhury said. “It has been scheduled as such. Ahead of the World Cup T20, England, Australia and New Zealand will tour Bangladesh, but a tri-series hasn’t yet been decided.”I think we had a commitment with Australia that they would play two Tests and two T20Is. Since we could fit the T20s we will increase it to three. It is not that it is replacing anything. We would have fit in a Test match if there was enough space. It will be a good preparation for us ahead of the World T20. We have an opportunity to play some high-profile teams.”According to the ICC’s published FTP, England are scheduled to tour Bangladesh in October to play three ODIs (as part of the ICC’s ODI Super League) and three T20Is.Meanwhile, Chowdhury added that all teams can fit in their World Test Championship matches until April after the timeline was extended from March. As such, the BCB is working on a tour of Sri Lanka to play the three-match Test series that was postponed twice last year.”It should be clarified that most of the FTP commitments currently are for the World Test Championships and the ODI competition (ODI Super League). There’s a guideline to complete the WTC matches before the final in June. The guideline to arrange those matches has been extended to April, from March.”To fit in these postponed series, both teams have to be available. At the moment only Sri Lanka is available till April. It is not possible to fit in the rest of the (postponed) matches. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are free in April so we are trying to schedule the two or three Tests of the WTC during that time.”

According to journalist Jorge Nicole, United winger Antony does not want to leave the Premier League side anytime soon and talk of a potential swap deal involving Flamengo's 19-year-old attacking midfielder Lorran are wide of the mark. He added that with Amorim just coming on board, the Brazilian is hopeful of getting more minutes in the Red Devils' first-team than he did under former boss Erik ten Hag this season.

Antony swapped Ajax for United for £85 million ($99m) in 2022 but since then he has scored just 12 goals and bagged five assists in 87 appearances. GOAL understands the Red Devils were open to the 24-year-old heading out on loan in January but whether the winger does that remains to be seen. It may be best for both parties to go their separate ways, however.

Antony, whose contract at Old Trafford runs until 2027, hinted earlier this season that he sees his future at United.

"I definitely need more goal participations and to score more goals. It's something I demand from myself. Rest assured, you'll hear the name Antony in relation to goals and assists," he said.

Liverpool keen on "incredible" £100m star who silenced Anfield last season

With Liverpool's summer transfer window bursting into life, the Reds are now reportedly keen on signing a midfielder who starred in a shock victory at Anfield last season.

Liverpool transfer news

For a moment, it looked as though Liverpool were going to make it through the entirety of the summer transfer window without a reinforcement. Things have changed this week, however, with Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi emerging as a target for those at Anfield. Pushing on for the Spaniard's signature, Arne Slot could yet get the missing piece that his midfield is crying out for.

In a deal that could see Liverpool trigger Zubimendi's hefty €60m (£52m) release clause, the Reds may well open their summer spending in style. But that doesn't mean that the 25-year-old will be the only name through the door. Recent rumours suggest that those at Anfield could yet turn to further reinforcements before the end of the month.

Names such as Anthony Gordon have been mentioned once again after he initially stole the headlines earlier this summer, and now a fellow England international has been linked with a move to Merseyside.

Alongside Zubimendi: Liverpool target £25m star who'd make Diaz unplayable

It’s not the first time the Reds have been linked with a move for the youngster.

ByEthan Lamb Aug 8, 2024

According to Rudy Galetti for TeamTalk, Liverpool are now keen on signing Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace alongside interest from Manchester United, after the midfielder impressed in the second-half of last season at Crystal Palace.

Wharton only arrived at Selhurst Park in January but has since enjoyed an upward trajectory to earn such links in the space of just seven months, with his club believing he should now be valued higher than the likes of Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo at £100m+.

Of course, Liverpool fans will be well aware of his quality, having witnessed it first-hand in Palace's shock 1-0 victory over the Reds at Anfield last season, in which Wharton dominated.

By the end of the shock result, Wharton had won eight out of ten duels, made six tackles and created one chance in an all-action display highlighted.

"Incredible" Wharton would be perfect Zubimendi partner

With Slot's system using a double pivot at the base of his midfield, signing both Wharton and Zubimendi could be an act of genius by Liverpool if they can afford it. The duo, on paper, would provide the perfect balance, handing Slot a midfield destroyer and someone who can conduct things from the heart of his side. Meanwhile, both players are excellent ball progressers.

Unsurprisingly, the England international has earned high praise from those at Selhurst Park, with Eberechi Eze saying via BBC Sport: "He's an incredible player to play with. Playing with him at Palace, I've got used to seeing the way he plays and understanding him. He's very calm, composed, and a joy to play with. For someone so young, he's very mature and very wise.

"When you speak to him, it feels like you're speaking to someone older than you, that's the type of person he is. He's an incredible player."

Big pictureThe series has moved from the east of the country to the west but India’s situation remains the same: they have to win the next match to stay alive. They’ve been buoyed by their biggest T20I win over South Africa on Tuesday, which could have been even bigger had their middle order not fallen away. Despite that, India will be pleased with the performance of their opening pair, who shared in their highest first-wicket stand against South Africa, and their attack, who challenged South Africa for the first time in the series.Bhuvneshwar Kumar, in particular, has been outstanding up front, moving the ball both ways and causing problems for a struggling South African opening pair. They’ve managed stands of 22, 5 and 23 and will want to be able to get off to better starts as South Africa fine-tune their batting combination. Their middle-order batters have made up for what the top two have lacked but will be disappointed with their lack of fight, and especially the hold Yuzvendra Chahal had over them in Visakhapatnam, where India’s spinners had their first real say of the series. South Africa’s have yet to do the same.On pitches that have been described as tricky for batting, the seam bowlers and their variations have been the biggest talking point, and wicket-taking has been dominated by India. Bhuvneshwar and Harshal Patel lead the bowling charts followed by Chahal and Dwaine Pretorius. South Africa’s biggest name, Kagiso Rabada, has been used more in a containing role while Anrich Nortje is still finding his feet after a lengthy injury layoff. Both will want to have more of an impact before the end of the series,An India batter is also atop the batting charts. Ishan Kishan has scored the most runs so far followed by a rejuvenated Heinrich Klaasen, and both are perhaps unexpected heroes. This pair have the opportunity to make themselves indispensable for their teams in the immediate future, especially with the series on the line.Form guideIndia WLLWW (last five completed matches, most recent first)
South Africa LWWWWIn the spotlightHis comeback since returning from a Kolpak deal has gone mostly under the radar but Wayne Parnell has put in some quietly impressive performances as he makes a claim for a T20 World Cup spot. He opened the bowling in the second match and was South Africa’s second-most economical bowler with a return of 1 for 23 in four overs and batted for the first time in the third match, where he scored an unbeaten 18-ball 22. With South Africa’s combination accommodating two seam-bowling allrounders at the moment, and Dwaine Pretorius establishing himself as a top-order pinch-hitter, Parnell has an opportunity to make the lower-order finisher’s job his.Shreyas Iyer has got starts in every match but may not yet have done enough to keep his place when Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav return. In the first and second match, he was undone by Dwaine Pretorius’ slower ball and in the third, didn’t time his sweep well enough to clear Anrich Nortje. After the first match, Wasim Jaffer and Dale Steyn said Iyer needed to work on his attacking strokeplay against pace, and the numbers agree. In this series, Iyer has scored 38 runs off 46 deliveries bowled by pace bowlers, including two fours and a six, and 52 runs off 27 balls bowled by spinners, including one four and six sixes. His strike rate against pace is 82.60 and more than double that against spin, 192.59.Quinton de Kock batted in the nets on Thursday and could be fit to return to South Africa’s XI•AFP/Getty Images

Team newsIndia have used the same combination in all three matches so far, and it worked for them in the third match. They’re unlikely to tinker with a winning formula, which could mean a longer wait for Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh to make their debuts.India (possible): 1 Ishan Kishan, 2 Ruturaj Gaikwad, 3 Shreyas Iyer, 4 Rishabh Pant (capt & wk), 5 Hardik Pandya, 6 Dinesh Karthik, 7 Axar Patel, 8 Harshal Patel, 9 Avesh Khan, 10 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal.Aiden Markram has left India after serving his seven-day quarantine after contracting Covid-19 on June 8. He will not have enough time to complete his return-to-play program before the end of the series. South Africa are also waiting on the fitness of Quinton de Kock, who injured his wrist before the second match, but batted in the nets on Thursday. Given the low strike-rates of the opening pair, de Kock is likely to replace Reeza Hendricks if he’s fit.South Africa (possible): 1 Quinton de Kock/Reeza Hendricks, 2 Temba Bavuma (capt), 3 Rassie van der Dussen, 4 David Miller, 5 Heinrich Klaasen (wk), 6 Dwaine Pretorius, 7 Wayne Parnell, 8 Kagiso Rabada, 9 Keshav Maharaj, 10 Anrich Nortje, 11 Tabraiz Shamsi.Pitch and conditionsThe pitch at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot is usually full of runs. India chased down 202 in the first T20I played at this venue, back in 2013, while New Zealand defended 196 here in 2017. India successfully chased 154 against Bangladesh in the most recent match here, in 2019, reaching their target with more than four overs to spare. There could be some relief from the weather gods, with cooler temperatures on this side of the country and less humidity.Stats and trivia South Africa have outdone India significantly in the 11th-16th-over phase during this series, scoring at 11.00 per over while restricting the hosts to a run rate of 7.72 in the same phase. South Africa have only lost three wickets in this phase through the series, while India have lost six. But South Africa have struggled in the powerplay, losing six wickets across the three matches while only going at a run rate of 7.11. India have done a lot better, going at 8.33 while losing just the one wicket.Quotes”We’re not expecting things to happen. We know we have to play well, and that’s what we did in the first two games. I don’t think you guys were thinking we were going to come here and win the series 5-0 just because all the big-name players aren’t here. That’s a good Indian team. I’d be foolish to change our approach after one loss.”
“Weather plays a big role in how a pitch plays. So we will assess the pitch and conditions tomorrow and see what the par score could be. If we are defending, we will have an idea, having batted first, which areas to bowl at.”

Vinicius Jr has been the target of sickening racial abuse during his time in the Spanish capital with Real Madrid. The Brazilian has broken down in tears when talking about the racism he has faced in La Liga and has said openly that he thinks Spain should be stripped of World Cup hosting duties in 2030 if no progress is made on the issue.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The latest incident of racism in La Liga has seen three people arrested for alleged abuse aimed at Barcelona stars Lamine Yamal and Raphinha during October's El Clasico. Yet former Spain boss Javier Clemente has now spoken out on the topic and claimed Vinicius Jr's issues are "not a problem of colour", and that he could try to control his anger.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

Clemente told : "I would like him not to be so angry on the pitch. If he gets kicked, he should take it and keep it. In football there are bad tackles or wrong refereeing decisions, but if you can't take that, you don't like it. He is a great player, but he argues with his opponent, he argues with the public, he argues with the referee, he argues with my sister… I think that if the lad were to reflect on this, he would be a person loved by everyone. It is not a problem of colour. We are not a racist country and that is very clear. What happens is that he has focused on it like this because it has interested him and I think that it is not good for him."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR VINICIUS

La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that progress is being made in the battle against racism but has warned there is "a long way to go" to eradicate such abuse from the game. Vinicius Jr is, however, on the sidelines for the time being after being ruled out of action by Real Madrid for the next three weeks with a hamstring injury.

VIDEO: USMNT's Christian Pulisic assists, Yunus Musah gets start in AC Milan's 3-0 dominance over Empoli FC

U.S. men's national team stars Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah both got starts for AC Milan at the San Siro against Empoli FC, with the former assisting in a dominant 3-0 win Saturday.

Therefused to let extremely foggy conditions affect them from asserting themselves early on. Pulisic and Rafael Leao alternated between the wing and No. 10 positions throughout the match while Musah got just his fourth start of the season – playing on the right wing after spending much of the season in a central midfielder role.

Alvaro Morata got the scoring for Milan going early, pouncing off a rebound from Leao's shot to give the side an early 1-0 lead. Pulisic would then play a role, finding Tijjani Reijnders on an admittedly fluky assist in the 44th minute. Reijnders would ice the contest in the 69th minute to put Milan on 22 points with 13 matches played.

The home side largely owned proceedings with a 56 percent advantage in possession and xG of 2.08 vs. Empoli's 0.9.

AdvertisementWATCH PULISIC'S ASSISTGetty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Pulisic will gladly take a goal contribution when he can, but his goalless streak in Serie A has now stretched to seven matches. While it’s not a major concern yet — he did score midweek for Milan in the Champions League — a prolonged drought could suggest his torrid start to the season was more of a hot streak than a new standard. Notably, he remains Milan’s top scorer, though others on the team are closing in.

Since the start of the 2023 season, he is the only Serie A player to record at least 20 goals and 15 assists in all competitions, per Opta.

On the other hand, Musah's start Saturday could signal a new level of trust from manager Paulo Fonseca. The 22-year-old lined up at right wing, as opposed to central midfield – where he typically plays for Milan. That's interesting because that's also where U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino has employed him with success since his arrival in September. While Fonseca will likely want more attacking impetus as the midfielder didn't take a single shot from the wing, he did the little things well — making four tackles and had a connected cross in the contest.

Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal reach agreement to sign "tenacious" new £38m star

With under a month until the new Premier League campaign gets underway, Arsenal now reportedly need one "final step" to land their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal transfer news

The Gunners have been in no position to panic this summer, perhaps unlike recent years, with Mikel Arteta's job to simply fine-tune a side who are going in pursuit of a third-time lucky in the Premier League title race. The North London giants challenged Manchester City for a second season running last time out but were once again unable to dethrone Pep Guardiola's winning machine at The Etihad.

Alongside Calafiori: Arsenal want PL ace to take Rice to the next level

The ace could arrive at the Emirates alongside the Italian international.

ByEthan Lamb Jul 20, 2024

That's not to say that Arteta won't welcome fresh faces before the end of next month, however, with names such as Nico Williams linked to The Emirates in what would be one of the most impressive deals of the summer. The Athletic Bilbao winger stole the headlines at Euro 2024 as Spain broke English hearts to seal a dominant tournament victory.

Spain star Nico Williams

Alas, before Williams, the Gunners look set to turn their attention towards a defensive reinforcement. According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have now reached an agreement to sign Riccardo Calafiori in a deal worth a total package of €45m (£38m).

The final step is reportedly the defender's former club, Basel, and current club Bologna over Calafiori's 50% sell-on payment terms.

Following an excellent Euro 2024 campaign, Calafiori is set to get his move and Arsenal are set to get their reinforcement to form what is, on paper, a backline fit for the Premier League crown.

"Tenacious" Calafiori can compete with Saliba and Gabriel

If William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes weren't impressive enough, then the addition of Calafiori could certainly create positive headlines. The Italian will suddenly hand Arteta a wealth of impressive defensive depth and quite the selection headache heading into the new campaign. The Spaniard already proved that he's willing to be ruthless when he dropped Aaron Ramsdale for David Raya last season and Calafiori is now likely to emerge to compete with Saliba and Gabriel.

What stands out is Calafiori's all-round ability, whether that be on or off the ball, particularly his ball-carrying skills. Next to Saliba, the Italian could form one of the most impressive ball-playing partnerships in the Premier League.

Described as "tenacious in duels" by Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig, Arsenal's summer business has got off to the best start if the "final step" goes through towards securing Calafiori's signature before the start of the Premier League campaign. What's more, the 22-year-old could even go up another level entirely under the guidance of Arteta in North London.
