Leeds could now rip up senior player’s contract, Farke doesn’t want him

Leeds United could be ready to part ways with one of their experienced heads at Elland Road and journalist Phil Hay has given some important insight into the latest news regarding his future.

What's the latest news involving Leeds United?

In an interview with German outlet BILD, Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche has praised the impact of on-loan Leeds United man Robin Koch at the Bundesliga outfit. Factoring in the fact Eintracht Frankfurt have conceded just three goals so far this campaign, Krösche has complemented the partnership of Koch and teammate Willian Pacho, stating: "We are doing very well defensively. It’s unbelievable how stable Pacho is and how Robin has fit in."

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Ben Jacobs believes that securing promotion to the Premier League may be a key element in whether Italy international Wilfried Gnonto decides to stay at Elland Road for the foreseeable future.

Jacobs said: "It will all simply depend on whether Leeds go up or stay in the Championship. If they stay in the Championship, I think they’ll let Gnonto leave. But if they go back up into the Premier League, he may not want to leave."

Of course, Gnonto is currently out with a ligament injury and will also require surgery, leaving him out of contention until after the next international break has concluded, cited by Leeds Live. Next up for Leeds United is a trip to Southampton this weekend as they look to continue their unbeaten streak in the Sky Bet Championship, which currently stands at six games without a defeat.

As per reports, Crystal Palace have scouted Leeds United youngster Archie Gray; however, any January approach from the South London-based outfit is deemed to be unlikely.

Who could leave Leeds United?

Speaking on the Square Ball podcast, The Athletic journalist Hay has given an update on the future of out-of-favour Leeds United man Helder Costa: "We’ll see what happens – the expectation was that he would go. As Farke said himself, Costa had said that he wanted to leave, hence why he wasn’t involved at all over the summer and there is simply no way he can be reintegrated now. He hasn’t trained through pre-season; he isn’t familiar with what Farke’s doing.

"He's been training on his own. There was obviously the Turkish window as well, which would’ve been an option. I think we all expected that he’s probably would go back to Saudi but noting has developed there. One of a handful of things is going to have to happen. Either they terminate his contract, or when they get round to January they find somewhere for him to go for six months so that he can burn down what’s left on his deal then move on, or he just sits tight until the end of the season and moves on as a free agent."

Costa has made 71 appearances for Leeds United in total over the course of his time at Elland Road, registering eight goals and 11 assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Nevertheless, all signs point to Farke no longer wanting the Angola international around and this could prompt Leeds United owners the 49ers to pay off the 40 weeks remaining on his £32,500 per week contract, which would equate to roughly £1.3 million.

K Gowtham 'believed' in his miracle

The equation read 43 off 17 balls when an uncapped batsman walks in to play his fifth IPL innings. One of the best death bowlers in the world will take charge of the next over. His previous six balls produced two wickets and only one run. How do you think the game ends? With the batting team winning, of course. K Gowtham smashed an unbeaten 33 off 11 balls, helped swindle 18 runs off Jasprit Bumrah’s final set alongside the other match-winner Jofra Archer, and capped it all off with the six that won the game. But the shot that grabbed the most attention was a perfectly executed slice over the heads of point and short third man off the second ball of the 20th over. The composure he showed in that moment, to merely react to what was coming and not blindly slog because the game was going down the wire, was impressive. When asked about that moment by the host broadcaster, Gowtham said: “I expected him to go for a yorker because the last ball he bowled was a bouncer. So I expected a wide yorker [and] as he had those fielders [at point and third man] in, I thought, let me wait for it and I just played the shot. That’s about it.”We do practice all this stuff. When you’re batting No. 7 or 8, you’re expected to get these kinds of deliveries and I’ve done this kind of practice much before the tournament and yesterday as well. So yes, I’d practiced and premeditated it would be a yorker. But it wasn’t a yorker, it was a length ball, I might have gone straight.”Gowtham’s 11-ball 33 was equivalent to 52 Smart runs – one of ESPNcricinfo’s new metrics to make sense of T20 cricket. Essentially, his innings was worth 19 more runs when seen in the context of the scoring rate of the batsman at the other end and the overall scoring rate of the game. No other batsman had such a telling impact on the match. Suryakumar Yadav’s 47-ball 72 came the closest. His effort at the top for Mumbai was worth 11 extra runs. All of that was the result of the faith his team had in him. Previous experience of facing Bumrah also helped. “I have played him before in one of the tournaments which we play back home,” Gowtham said. “We play Vijaya Bank tournament so I have played him at that time. But he was not Bumrah then. Now he is something different.”All our support staff, my captain, my players, everyone just told me believe in yourself, believe in your ability. I had not done justice with the bat and I hope this is just the beginning.”The 29-year old allrounder from Karnataka, is actually rather well known for his big hitting. Prior to Sunday night’s madness, he had a T20 strike-rate of 157, compiled over the course of 26 innings, and a career-best score of 60, in 29 balls, batting at No. 3.

"Matter of time" – Liverpool, Man City and Barcelona target speaks out

Liverpool have been linked with a swoop for a promising new defender, and he has now delivered his public stance on a move following rumours he is wanted in the Premier League.

What's the latest transfer news at Liverpool?

According to reports, FSG are preparing a bid to sign Brentford’s Aaron Hickey in January and Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that they still hold a strong interest in Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, although he is about to sign a new contract at St. James’ Park.

Speaking of putting pen to paper on fresh terms, Kostas Tsimikas has now committed his future to Jurgen Klopp’s side by signing an improved long-term deal which is rumoured to run until 2027, in what is a huge boost to the squad depth on Merseyside.

Back in June, Italian outlet Calciomercato reported that the Reds had been watching US Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu, with his agent later confirming that he was a player of interest to the side at Anfield, alongside rivals Manchester City and La Liga giants Barcelona.

With Andrew Robertson and Tsimikas available to him, the boss doesn’t really need to enter the market for any further reinforcements in their position, but the 18-year-old sounds ready to once again attract the attention of high-profile clubs having opened up on his future in a new public interview which suggests he's leaving the door open.

Are Liverpool signing Patrick Dorgu?

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet (via Sport Witness), Dorgu revealed he is a boyhood Chelsea fan, but asked to comment on the attention he’s received from Liverpool, Man City and Barca, he replied:

I really just take it as motivation, that when the big teams look at me, it is because I am doing the right thing and must continue. Then it’s just a matter of time before the big teams come knocking."

Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu.

How good is Patrick Dorgu?

Liverpool will know that Dorgu is still a teenager so the likelihood is that they are looking at him as a potential addition for the long-term future of the club rather than in the here and now, and there's no doubt that he could definitely be an exciting recruit should he eventually make the move to Anfield.

The Denmark youth international is extremely calm and composed in possession as he’s currently averaging an 85.2% pass success rate, alongside 1.2 tackles per game in the Serie A, displaying his desire to get stuck into challenges and win the ball back for his team.

Furthermore, Roberto D'Aversa’s £1.9k-per-week earner has plenty of pace which he loves to use to burst down the flank, dribble past his marker and create chances for himself and his fellow teammates in the final third, posting ten direct goal contributions (seven goals and three assists) in 69 appearances throughout his career.

Finally, Dorgu, who is naturally left-footed, has been described as a “dynamic” player by the Danish Scout, so he is naturally full of energy and can bring lots of youthful exuberance to the table, making him an exciting potential heir to the Robertson-Tsimikas duo as they approach their thirties.

Liverpool: English rising star named as potential Salah successor

Mohamed Salah's Liverpool career isn't going to go on forever and the club are reportedly eyeing up eventual replacements at Anfield.

When will Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool?

The Egyptian has become one of the greatest players in the Reds' history since he joined from Roma in the summer of 2017. breaking endless records and winning countless trophies along the way.

Salah remains arguably the first name on Jurgen Klopp's team sheet, already registering four goal contributions (two goals and assists apiece) in as many Premier League appearances so far this season, and he has grown into one of the most famous faces in world football.

The 31-year-old has been the subject of plenty of interest recently, however, with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad bidding £150m for his services, only to see Liverpool reject the offer. While he is staying put for the time being, it seems likely that they will return for him in the future, as well as possibly other Middle East clubs, seeing him as one of the poster boys for the Saudi Pro League moving forward.

Salah's current Reds deal expires in the summer of 2025, and while signing an extension would be a great news, they have to prepare for him moving on next year, at which point he will only have 12 months remaining on his contract.

West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen.

Are Liverpool signing Jarrod Bowen?

According to The Athletic, Liverpool see West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen as a potential replacement in the future, admiring the qualities he possesses:

"Within a far less possession-dominant side, Jarrod Bowen is among the top 20 by this metric (dribbling), with 41 attacking carries putting him above the likes of Antony (38), Jack Grealish (33) and Raheem Sterling (30). Whether it is driving to the byline to create for others, or dropping the shoulder to get a shot away, Bowen has a similar desire for providing end product once he gets going.

"Bowen is a player Liverpool admire and have been watching for a number of seasons. How he would fare in a team that dominate the ball more and need to break down low block defences more often would be a key question."

Bowen has matured into an excellent Premier League player since moving to West Ham from Hull City, scoring 43 goals and registering 32 assists in 162 Hammers appearances, not to mention scoring the winning goal in his side's UEFA Europa Conference League final victory over Fiorentina last season.

Reliable goal and assist return

Passing not a strong point

Threat on the counter-attack

Not too involved in build-up play

Strong work ethic

Largely one-footed player

Klopp has lauded the 26-year-old as "unbelievable" in the past, and he is a constant threat with pace and power out wide, but he is also not close to the world-class level that Salah has consistently reached in a Liverpool shirt.

The Reds need to be signing a sure-fire hit when the Egyptian King eventually moves on – someone who can score around 20-30 goals a season and be one of the best players in the Premier League – but Bowen could be more of a strong squad player, rather someone who fits into this bracket.

Liverpool signing him could prove to be a good piece of business, but not as Salah's first-choice successor, unless he finds new levels this season.

Tottenham: Spurs ready discounted sale for star Ange loves

Tottenham Hotspur and chairman Daniel Levy are reportedly plotting a discounted January sale for one player who Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of.

What's the latest Spurs transfer news?

Spurs have begun this new Premier League season in very fine fashion under Postecoglou; winning four of their opening six top flight matches while remaining unbeaten. In that time, only Brighton, Man City and Newcastle have scored more than the Lilywhites; highlighting a new-look, attack-minded style courtesy of their popular new manager.

Tottenham most recently held their own against north London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, matching them toe-to-toe for possession and attacking play in a 2-2 draw last Sunday. Captain Son Heung-min's brace helped them fight back from a goal-down on two occasions, and you could argue they were desperately unlucky with the goals they did concede.

Levy's off-field decisions, like the hiring of Postecoglou and Tottenham's seven major signings over the summer, have been completely justified so far with an array of impressive results. However, you could argue there's still room to strengthen, as the club may well be just one or two injuries away from a serious lack of depth.

Tottenham Hotspur manager AngePostecogloureacts after the match

James Maddison's scare this week has definitely drawn attention to this, while the north Londoners are also lacking astute defensive cover if one of Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven where to be sidelined. It is believed Spurs are aiming to rectify this, though. Indeed, the likes of Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly and Juventus star Gleison Bremer have both been linked with moves to Tottenham in the past month.

Meanwhile, there are some suggestions that Spurs could move to replace Harry Kane outright with a new centre-forward, as Brentford star Ivan Toney attracts their interest.

Who could leave Tottenham?

Levy and new Chief Football Officer Scott Munn will need to balance the books, though, with midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ivan Perisic and Giovani Lo Celso all recently tipped to leave in the winter window. The latter star is a favourite of Postecoglou's, however, with the Australian heaping praise on his midfielder in pre-season.

"I’m really happy with Gio," said the Tottenham boss. "He’s been really good in training. You can see he’s a quality player and I think the way we play suits him. I’ve enjoyed working with him and I think he’s enjoying himself in terms of the football we want to play."

Despite this, there have been reports of a possible exit for Lo Celso in January, with Italian news site TUTTOmercatoWEB and their reporter Raimondo De Magistric sharing a further update. According to his information, the Argentine's spell at Tottenham "now seems to be at the end of the credits", meaning he looks set to leave soon.

It's added that he could leave in January, and while Spurs were demanding around £22 million for his sale in the summer, this figure will decrease when the window reopens to around £13 million – as Levy seemingly plots a discounted sale. Lo Celso's contract expires in 2025, given the club just a hanful of future windows to earn good money from a proposed transfer.

The report and journalist go on to claim Real Betis, Sevilla and even Barcelona showed an interest in taking him on loan last window, but that sort of deal is apparently a no-go from Tottenham.

Ranking the 10 worst Tottenham Hotspur kits ever

Tottenham Hotspur have donned some iconic kits over their history, with a number of the game’s recognisable faces wearing the famous cockerel on their chest.

Some Spurs kits truly hit the mark, becoming collectors’ items and must-haves for supporters. However, with the good comes the bad, and it is fair to say the Lilywhites have had some truly shocking kits.

So, we at Football FanCast have decided to rank the worst 10 Spurs kits from the Premier League era. Here are our selections, with some no doubt going to divide opinion amongst diehard fans…

10

1995/96 Away

Tottenham Hotspur 1995/96.

Purple shirts have been done regularly by Tottenham’s kit manufacturers over the years. And it is fair to say, in recent years, the likes of Under Armour and Nike have been able to design them well.

However, the same cannot be said for Pony’s effort in the mid ’90s. A striped shirt with purple and navy colours paired with a buttoned up collar feels like a recipe for a bad kit.

On top of all the design issues with this kit, the 95/96 campaign did not provide the Spurs faithful much to cheer about with an eighth placed finish following the sale of Jurgen Klinsmann.

9

2008/09 Third

David Bentley Tottenham Hotspur 2008/09.

Puma have provided Spurs with some memorable kits over the years. The club’s first ever Champions League campaign came with Puma manufacturing their kits.

And the club provided Tottenham with a truly iconic chocolate brown kit in 2006 which sold out almost instantly. A couple of years later, Puma seemingly tried to follow on from that success with another brown kit.

It is difficult to call that effort a triumph with this third kit showcasing – what can only be said – two odd striped on the right shoulder as well as a strange collar style.

The 2008/09 campaign was not one to remember for Spurs with the club forced to sack Juande Ramos after what was a dreadful start under the Spaniard with the Lilywhites slumped at the bottom of the league.

8

1999/00 Away

Tottenham Hotspur 1999/00

Again, yellow shirts have become synonymous with the north London club over the years with a number of away and third shirts being designed in that colour way.

But the combination of a navy top third and a yellow remainder of the jersey just does not seem to be a good mix on the Adidas template which includes a white collar.

It is also key to point out that this shirt that was worn by Sol Campbell and, therefore, will not provide Spurs fans with many positive memories.

The Lilywhites did not produce much in the 99/00 campaign with a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League not offering a huge amount to celebrate.

7

2012/13 Home

Gareth Bale scores against West Ham for Tottenham Hotspur.

There is certainly room for debate that this kit is worse than what is to follow next, but the memories which will be brought back as a result of this kit will by far outmatch anything the next could offer.

Indeed, Under Armour certainly failed to produce the goods when designing this kit. There is very little right with this kit with the collar leaving a lot left to be desired.

However, Gareth Bale’s stunning goals will forever be remembered by the Spurs faithful and it turned out to be his final season at Spurs wearing this kit.

What Bale done in this shirt may have proven to be one of the main reasons as to why Real Madrid broke the world record transfer fee to bring the Welshman to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013.

6

2013/14 Home

Tottenham Hotspur Jermain Defoe Europa League.

There are quite a lot similarities with the kit above given they both have an odd open-necked collar, however, the memories in this kit were certainly not as fond.

This season marked the end of what proved to be a strange period of time between Harry Redknapp’s reign and the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino in north London.

Tottenham were able to finish sixth in the Premier League but life without Bale saw a number of players brought in from his transfer fee and fail to provide the fans with much excitement.

5

2005/06 Away

Jermaine Jenas Tottenham Hotspur

Another entry from Kappa and this time they have combined the colours blue and yellow. Once again, it is fair to say it did not work.

A royal blue shirt is not quite synonymous with the Lilywhites – more so their west London rivals. Combined with the tight-fitting Kappa material, it is not a design which many fans will look back on fondly.

Some famous names donned this kit; Edgar Davids, Michael Carrick and Robbie Keane to name a few, but just no Kappa.

4

1997/98 Goalkeeper

Ian Walker plays for Tottenham Hotspur in 1998.

Perhaps we are being slightly cheeky by including a goalkeeper kit on this list, however, just look at it.

We make the rules on this list and this kit is just too bad not to include. Unfortunately for Ian Walker, Pony kept this kit for two seasons but there were some positive memories to come from the seasons wearing this monstrosity.

This kit is truly a shocker. Although, it has to be said obscure ’90s keeper kits have been seen by some as fashion statements of late, but we are not sure this is one which will catch on with those individuals.

In reality, this kit is probably worth topping the charts as the worst kit, but we have probably bent the rules slightly to sneak this in given it is a goalkeeper kit.

3

2021/22 Third

Tottenham Hotspur beat Leeds United 4-0.

Nike, what were you thinking? As we’ve already mentioned, there have been some excellent purple Spurs shirts over the years. It was Nike who provided one of them, in particular, with the 2017/18 third kit which will be remembered for their away draw at Juventus in the Champions League.

But did they really think this would prove to be a classic when they designed this? In fact, the kit is said to be based on the N17 area. The press release from the club stated the design had been inspired by a group of young creatives:

“In 2019, a group of eight young creatives were mentored at local art studio Tottex alongside Nike’s Design team. Through a series of workshops, they were able to express what Tottenham as an area means to them.

“The group’s creative vision has now been brought to life with the Third Kit design encompassing bold prints and patterns inspired by the streets of Tottenham. The striking purple design celebrates the vibrancy of the Club’s N17 neighbourhood, with an N17 logo on the inside collar.”

The sentiment may be there, but the result was a shocker. Tottenham did have some good games in this kit with an enjoyable 4-0 victory over Leeds United on the road perhaps the most memorable.

But this is certainly a kit which Spurs fans will not want to remember. Especially a select few fans, who said this:

“As previously stated, horrid.” Another said: “Worst kit of all time.” A third also wrote: “Toilet. Looks like a really bad Sunday League Kit.” Meanwhile, one more simply stated: “Looks like a training kit.” (Daily Star).

2

2022/23 Away

Tottenham player Pedro Porro.

Having gone all the way back to the ’90s for our number three pick, you only have to go to the last two campaigns to find our second and worst kits in Tottenham’s Premier League history.

And here it is, the 2022/23 away kit has been selected by Football FanCast as the club’s worst kit.

Simply put, what on earth is this from Nike? Often the likes of Nike are scrutinised for using the same templates and safe designs across their sponsored clubs; perhaps they should have played it a little safer with this example.

On the release of this kit, the social media memes didn’t take long to liken this kit a scuba dive wetsuit. And it could be seen that Spurs did sink whilst wearing this as the 2022/23 campaign proved to be their worst in well over a decade as they had to settle for an eighth-placed finish.

Some may argue our entry at number two may be a worse design than this, however, at least there was some sentiment behind the 2021/22 third kit with the links back to the community.

1

2002/03 Third

It is another yellow and navy shirt that is hitting our list and this number came just a matter of years on from Adidas’ effort at number eight.

This time around, Kappa provided their spin on a yellow third kit and it is fair to say it is not one which can be looked back on fondly.

As was the case with Kappa kits of the time, the fitting was extremely tight with a stretchy fabric used.

Many may remember this style of kit through the likes of Francesco Totti donning the burgundy Roma Kappa kit. But it did not quite have the same effect at Tottenham with the likes of Serhiy Rebrov in the squad.

Chelsea could sign "phenomenal" £150m Osimhen upgrade

When big money gets thrown around like it's nobody's business, a club's expectations will automatically increase, and it's Chelsea who have found themselves victims of that narrative in recent times.

Criticised for their overspending, the Blues have totalled over £1bn in transfer fees since Todd Boehly arrived at the club as the American attempted to buy his way to a league title and instead, bought his way to a 12th-place finish last term.

While most anticipated drastic improvements with the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, the Argentine has found it to be a poisoned chalice having dropped points in five of their eight matches.

If Chelsea are in a similar position come January, Boehly could dip into his deep pockets once more and provide Pochettino with the funds to sign a striker.

Who could sign for Chelsea in January?

According to reports from ESPN this month, Chelsea are eyeing up a blockbuster move for Napoli's prolific marksman Victor Osimhen.

The Blues are still seeking reinforcements up front having lacked that killer touch in the final third this season and the Nigeria international could provide that.

He's forged a reputation for becoming one of Europe's most exciting strikers and the Italian giants have acknowledged that by slapping a reported £150m price tag on his head earlier this year.

Although that is a ludicrous amount of money to shell out, especially after totalling over £1bn in spending across three windows, Napoli could be forced to enter talks with his contract expiring in 2025.

Osimhen is also currently unhappy after he was the subject of two offensive clips that were shared on the club's TikTok account, casting doubt over his future while his agent threatened to sue the Serie A side in the wake of the fallout.

While it remains unclear as to whether Chelsea will pursue a deal for the 24-year-old in January, he would significantly bolster a forward line consisting of £32m summer arrival Nicolas Jackson, who has only scored twice in seven appearances this term, as well as Armando Broja.

How many goals has Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli?

In the past few years, Osimhen has become one of the most lethal strikers on the planet and an impressive return of 65 goals in 111 appearances for Napoli emphasises that point.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

Accumulating 103 goals in 201 club matches across his career to date, it is clear that the Nigerian knows where the back of the net is, displaying unequivocal efficiency in front of goal, unlike Jackson.

The 22-year-old, who has been the subject of wasted opportunities and exhuming a lack of conviction, has supplied the Blues with a measly conversion rate of 10% this term, seven big chances missed and only two goals scored from an xG of 4.09, as per Sofascore.

By contrast, the "phenomenal" Osimhen – as lauded by Italian coach Walter Mazzarri – has produced incredible goal-scoring numbers, including six goals in eight Serie A matches this season, 4.1 shots per game and an xG of 6.11.

Osimhen's clinical edge is amplified by the fact he has ranked in the top 1% against his position peers across Europe's top five leagues for non-penalty goals, touches in the attacking penalty box and total shots as well as top 10% for aerials won in the past year, via FBref.

If Chelsea can negotiate a lower price for the sensational forward and beat off interest from elsewhere, he could provide the requisite magic that has been in short supply.

Stuart Broad finishes No. 1 among nearly six million

The number 169 just took on even greater significance for England bowler Stuart Broad. It’s his highest Test score, and it was now also the fantasy football score that made him lead the Fantasy Premier League for game week 37. Broad was first among nearly six million contestants in the latest round of English Premier League matches, and he joked on Twitter that the achievement rivalled his 8 for 15 in the 2015 Ashes. That was on Thursday, May 11. The following day Manchester United drew 0-0 with West Ham, and because Broad had West Ham keeper Adrian on the bench – and having used the ‘bench boost’ – he finished on 180 points and won the game week.Broad is a fan of Nottingham Forest, who do not play in the Premier League, and so had the advantage of being able to make unbiased picks in his Fantasy XI. He had made Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang his captain and got 46 points for him, thanks to Aubameyang’s three goals and one assist over the week. Broad also got 15 points each for Chelsea left back Marcos Alonso, who scored against Huddersfield, and Tottenham centre back Jan Vertonghen, who helped keep a clean sheet against Newcastle. He used the “bench boost” option, which means he got points for his substitutes.0800 GMT* The story was updated to reflect Broad winning the week
