Everton fans slam Cenk Tosun after dismal showing against Norwich

Having signed from Turkish giants Besiktas back in January 2018 for a fee in the region of £27m, Cenk Tosun has spectacularly failed to deliver on the expectations that were placed upon him.

Then Everton manager Sam Allardyce lauded him for being “strong mentally” and hailed his “talent and goal-scoring” too. Sadly for both the Toffees and the striker himself, that has not proven to be the case.

In the 48 games he has played for the club, he has managed just ten goals as per Transfermarkt. And on Saturday afternoon against Norwich in the Premier League, the Turkey international produced a largely anonymous display.

As per Sofascore, the 28-year-old couldn’t convert any of the four attempted shots he had, whilst he only managed a measly 29 touches of the ball.

After seeing his poor performance, Everton fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on their centre-forward.

Many supporters of the Merseyside club couldn’t quite believe Marco Silva continues to play him, and insisted he simply isn’t good enough to play for the side.

Everton fans react to news Richarlison is close to signing a new contract

At desperate times like these, Everton could really do with a pick-me-up. And in the form of Marcel Brands’ update on Richarlison, they have got exactly that.

The Brazil international has been a permanent fixture in the Toffees’ squad since his arrival from Watford, featuring 54 times across all competitions. There were even suggestions earlier this season that Manchester United have been watching him in view to him potentially being the solution to their lack of strikers.

But it now appears Richarlison’s long-term future is set to be at Goodison Park. Speaking to the club’s official website (as quoted by The Liverpool Echo), Brands said: “We have to look at the positives ahead and one of the positive thing this week is that we are now busy with the last details of extending a new contract with one of our key players, Richarlison, until 2024.”

After hearing the contract update on the forward, Everton fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.

Many supporters of the Merseyside club insisted it is a great piece of news for the club moving forward, and that it is refreshing to hear something positive amidst the side’s struggles.

Aston Villa fans uninspired by Tyrone Mings’ interview

Aston Villa will face off against West Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, but comments from one of the club’s defenders regarding his feelings towards local derbies have got these fans criticising the labelling of the fixture, with some drawing comparisons to games against West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City as true derby games.

Villa, under the management of Dean Smith, will be aiming to get their season back on track after having suffered consecutive defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Liverpool, while Wolves will be looking to extend their unbeaten to 12 matches in the contest at Molineux.

Ahead of the game, an interview with Villa defender Tyrone Mings has been released, with the former AFC Bournemouth defender speaking regarding his excitement for the fixture.

Mings discussed the importance of bragging rights for fans at the atmosphere in the away end, but that most importantly his side must take all three points.

Here are some of the best reactions following the centre-back’s interview, with many fans disagreeing with Wolves being viewed as local rivals.

Wolves signing Dwight McNeil would be a coup if Nuno Santo changes his ways

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to TEAMtalk, Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of three Premier League clubs chasing Burnley’s emerging star Dwight McNeil.

He could well be a massive coup for the club, but only if manager Nuno Santo changes his attitude towards one aspect of his management.

What’s the word?

Reports suggest that Wolves are keen on adding the 19-year-old and they could well test Burnley’s resolve in the near future.

Although, it is believed that the Lancashire outfit would like at least £30m for the winger so it remains to be seen whether the hierarchy at the west Midlands club will put in any offer.

They will also have to compete with both Leicester City and Everton to secure his signature.

Nuno needs to change

McNeil’s breakthrough and subsequent rise has been nothing short of impressive as he’s worked his way through the Burnley system after being rejected by Manchester United.

Now he’s regularly featuring for Aidy Boothroyd’s England U21 squad where the Young Lions chief has described him as a “flair player” in the past.

The young starlet has developed substantially over the last few years which has been highlighted by his former youth manager’s comments.

Michael Jolley, now in charge of League Two side Grimsby Town, said: “I think he has always had a bit of an X Factor. He has such a good left foot, is a good physical size and has always had a terrific attitude to do the work and improve himself and work hard.”

Michael Kightly reveals the truth about his exit from Wolves in the video below…

These glowing reviews sound right up Nuno’s street, but if the Portuguese native were to whip out his wallet and splash the cash on McNeil, then he has to change his ways slightly.

It is well known that the Wolves boss rarely likes to rotate his squad – last season in the Premier League only 19 players featured in some substantial form while this term a similar pattern is brewing as 18 have played two or more matches.

If you were McNeil, you’d worry about any potential game time especially as Diogo Jota appears to hold down that left-sided spot as Nuno’s first choice having scored 32 times in 100 appearances, per Transfermarkt.

West Ham fans react to Manuel Pellegrini replacing Mark Noble

A selection of West Ham United fans took to social media during their loss at home to Newcastle United on Saturday to share their thoughts on Manuel Pellegrini replacing Mark Noble with Albian Ajeti at half-time.

The Irons entered the break two goals behind at home to the Magpies, after centre-half duo Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez fired past Roberto Jimenez.

West Ham had held more of the possession when they returned to the dressing room, but had only turned two of their five shots on target, while the Toon hit six of their seven efforts on target from just 31.7% of the ball, per WhoScored data.

In search of something to inspire a comeback, Pellegrini made a double change at half-time with Ajeti coming on for Noble and Manuel Lanzini replacing Andriy Yarmolenko.

Only Sebastien Haller and Declan Rice had spent less time on the ball for West Ham from their outfield players in the opening 45 than Yarmolenko, while Noble marginally eclipsed Pablo Zabaleta.

Despite his reduced time in possession, Noble had attempted (26) and completed (21) more passes than almost all of his teammates before being replaced, with Felipe Anderson the only other non-Irons defender to complete more than 20.

Noble rarely made an impact in the final-third, though, as just eight of his passes were made in Newcastle’s defensive part of the pitch, while also offering little defensively with no interceptions or clearances and won just one tackle from three attempts.

Yet West Ham fans were not impressed by Pellegrini’s half-time switch, going by some of the reactions shared…

Newcastle fans slam Bruce for saying “we” when talking about unearthing Dubravka

Newcastle fans have slammed manager Steve Bruce after the comments he made while speaking about goalkeeper Martin Dubravka’s contract renewal.

Dubravka, 30, put pen to paper on a new six-year deal which will keep him at the club past his 36th birthday.

He originally joined the Magpies on loan in 2018 from Sparta Prague before the previous manager Rafa Benitez was able to secure his services on a permanent basis.

The shot-stopper has been one of Newcastle’s outstanding performers over the last 12 months after a series of good performances for the Magpies. He kept 11 clean sheets and played in all 38 Premier League games last season.

He has three clean sheets out of nine games during the current campaign, most importantly during their 1-0 win over Manchester United in October.

Bruce use of the term “we’ve” in his statement has caused fume amongst the Newcastle fanbase. One fan said that Bruce is “riding on Rafa’s coat-tails”, insinuating that the Magpies manager is trying to get credit for the work that Benitez did. Another supporter said the comments reminded him of the time former boss Joe Kinnear unearthed Tim Krul.

Arsenal eyeing swoop for Scunthorpe United midfielder Joey Dawson

Arsenal are reportedly looking to secure the services of the young Scunthorpe United sensation Joey Dawson after the new club scholar recently made history.

What’s the word?

Dawson became the youngest player to ever appear for the Iron at just 16 years and 75 days old against Derby County in the Carabao Cup. The youngster is yet to appear in League Two as Scunthorpe find themselves 22nd in the league table, but he has been named on the bench on five different occasions.

The Iron midfielder is the nephew of former Spurs and England defender Michael Dawson, who currently plays for Nottingham Forest in the Championship. His father, Andy, coaches at Hull City.

The Sun have now revealed that the Gunners could make a move, with the north London side keen on the youngster.

One for the future

As the Spanish manager maintains his drive towards nurturing youth talent, Dawson comes under the category of a player that Arsenal will look to sign in the next two transfer windows.

The 16-year-old can play as a central midfielder or a striker, which would bring some versatility to his squad. Having a concrete outfield position would most likely have to be in place as he matures. Dawson worked his way through Scunthorpe’s youth academy as one of the club’s eight new scholars.

Having not currently signed a professional contract with the Lincolnshire-based outfit, the next two campaigns will be crucial for Dawson as Emery’s scouts will surely be closely monitoring his development. This is relevant to whether he comes in as part of the first-team setup at London Colney, or if he is sent out on loan.

Scunthorpe’s manager Paul Hurst described Dawson as a player “with a lot of potential” who showed “good ability” during pre-season, and the 16-year-old played for the first team against Guiseley back in July, per the Grimsby Telegraph.

The future should always take a priority of investment at every club – therefore Emery should not hesitate in making a swoop for Dawson. After that, it will be up to the player himself in terms of how badly he wants to make it to the elite level.

Liverpool should give role to Marko Grujic instead of renewing James Milner’s contract

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

James Milner has been a great servant for Liverpool but his contract shouldn’t be renewed when it expires at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old played very well against Leicester on Saturday and showed terrific composure to slot in a last-gasp penalty to ensure his team made it eight wins out of eight in the Premier League.

His display led Jurgen Klopp to describe him as unique and “exceptional”, and his experience is likely a big influence on the rest of the team, but this season there are signs that he is beginning to falter.

Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

For that reason, and considering his wage of £140,000 a week, some fans believe the club should decide against renewing his deal, and there are a few factors which support their assessment.

Firstly, his performances have tailed off in comparison to last season and that was best evidenced against Napoli, a game which suggests he is beginning to struggle at the highest level.

He failed to make an interception in that clash and achieved a pass accuracy of only 78%, which is a lot lower than his 85% pass accuracy in the last campaign.

That hints that the speed of the game may be starting to get away from him, and with younger, hungrier alternatives in the Reds squad, Klopp should decide to freshen things up.

Liverpool currently have seven senior central midfielders in the squad, but one who is currently on loan – Marko Grujic – could be a suitable long-term successor to the former Man City player.

Grujic has performed well at Hertha Berlin in his second stint there in as many years. He has two goals from seven league games but his ability to take the ball past defenders could make him a better option than Milner, with an average of 1.7 successful dribbles this term.

Added to that, he has been praised for his mental attributes, too, being described by one journalist as “clever, patient, and precise on the ball”, and that is exactly what Klopp needs from his players when trying to break down defensive teams.

If he can continue to progress as he has done for the rest of his time in Germany then he could earn a role in the Reds squad next season, a development which would please fans and should signal the end of Milner’s time on Anfield.

Aston Villa target Omar Elabdellaoui would offer very little to the squad

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Daily Mail, Aston Villa are one of several Premier League clubs linked with a move to sign Omar Elabdellaoui on a free transfer next summer.

What’s the word?

The reports suggest that the west Midlands club are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old with his contract set to expire at the end of the current season.

As he currently plies his trade abroad for Greek outfit Olympiacos, Elabdellaoui would be available to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club from the 1st of January onwards, meaning Villa could make their move in just a few months.

The right-back has previous experience in England in the past after he endured a futile spell at Manchester City, the club he joined aged 16, as well as Hull City, who he joined on loan in 2017.

On Friday evening, the Norway international impressed in their 1-1 draw over Spain with him being the man to win their injury-time penalty.

Having spent five years on the books at the Premier League champions, the defender would be able to fulfil a homegrown spot for any Premier League club.

Gliding Guilbert

It remains to be seen how accurate these reports are, but they do seem a little unlikely considering they only signed a new right-back in January.

Frederic Guilbert was one of Dean Smith’s first signings as he joined from then-Ligue 1 side Caen.

Aston Villa’s summer signings’ performances so far this season are rated in the video below…

Villa had to wait to see him in action as he was loaned back to his former club with him making his debut against Everton, their first win of this campaign. Ever since then, he has kept hold of his spot ahead of Ahmed Elmohamady.

The 24-year-old has been one of their consistent performers, averaging two tackles and three interceptions per game, via WhoScored, as he has now played in six of a possible eight league games.

Meanwhile Elmohamady, despite not featuring, has been thrown on three times as a winger and even signed a contract extension back in August, making a move for another right-back seem all the more unlikely.

Crystal Palace legend Mile Jedinak names his ‘worst’ moment at the club

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Crystal Palace legend Mile Jedinak has given an interesting interview to The Athletic about his time at Selhurst Park, with some intriguing snippets to say the least.

The former Australia international – who made 179 appearances for the Eagles across a five-year stay – captained the Eagles to a first FA Cup final in 26 years, and also led them to the unlikeliest of promotions back in 2013.

Jedinak, a dominant midfield presence, departed SE25 after being stripped of the captaincy by Alan Pardew and sold to Aston Villa, but he is still fondly remembered as a club icon – the club’s Twitter account even called him a ‘legend’ themselves.

While speaking to The Athletic, Jedinak named his worst Palace moment, and it is one that is hard to argue with.

What did he say?

The 35-year-old said: “You knew Crystal Palace don’t often make FA Cup finals. Why not be the first ones to lift an FA Cup? It almost was us. That’s the hardest thing to take from it all.”

Club correspondent Matt Woosnam also wrote about how Jedinak described the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United as his ‘worst’ moment at the club and the ‘only regret’ from his stay in SE25.

Hard to disagree

The south Londoners have never won a significant trophy, and were just over ten minutes from doing so after Jason Puncheon’s 78th-minute strike at Wembley back in 2016.

In truth, Pardew’s side should have seen the game out from then on and become history makers, winning the first trophy in the club’s history and becoming legends in doing so.

A win also would have seen Palace compete in Europe with a passage into the Europa League, which would have enabled Jedinak to write another beautiful chapter in his story with the Eagles.

Given how close the Aussie and his teammates were to winning the FA Cup, and the manner in which they threw it away – the Eagles conceded almost immediately after scoring the opener – it is especially hard to disagree with what Jedinak describes as his ‘worst’ moment at the club.

And considering Pardew was involved in both the final and the club’s dismissal of their ‘legend’, we don’t think the former Newcastle boss will be on Jedinak’s Christmas card list.
