Leeds fans share thoughts on Eddie Nketiah’s relationship with Ian Wright

[ad_pod ]

Eddie Nketiah can seemingly do no wrong at the moment.

The Leeds loan man has three goals in four games for the Whites and has now seemingly left supporters wanting more following comments made in a pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with Swansea.

Speaking to reporters, Nketiah revealed the stewardship he’d been receiving from former striker Ian Wright.

The 20-year-old walked through the doors of Elland Road on loan on deadline day and has hit the ground running despite not starting in the Championship yet.

Talking about his relationship with Wright, Leeds fans appeared to be excited. One said that the striker couldn’t go wrong learning from someone like him whilst another noted that Wright’s goals record said it all.

A further individual claimed it was the best role model Nketiah could have as another commented he couldn’t go wrong with the ex-Arsenal man on his side.

Wright scored 158 goals in 280 games,  per Transfermarkt, and on that evidence, he’s certainly someone that can help one of Leeds’ latest captures.

Nketiah has only started in the League Cup this term but has bagged in both ties with Salford and Stoke.

Here’s some of the reaction.

Arsenal fans slam Pepe vs Crystal Palace

Many Arsenal fans have been left slamming the display of Nicolas Pepe in their 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday night.

The former Lille star actually started off quite well, with a nice curling effort that was saved by Vicente Guaita and then tucked home by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the opening few minutes of the first half.

However, his performance became increasingly laboured, as he struggled to have any real impact on the game after that.

The Ivory Coast international lost out on 13 of his duels, and failed with five crossing attempts and five dribbles, while he also lost possession of the ball on no fewer than on 22 separate occasions in the match, the most out of any of his teammates to have set foot on the pitch (Sofascore).

These Gunners slammed his performance on Twitter, with one supporter even going as far as to claim that he has been ‘woeful’:

“I’m also done with Pepe at this club he’s so wasteful. He’s been overall woeful for £72m. Lille robbed us. Move him on in Jan and give a young player a chance.”

Liverpool: Paul Glatzel struggling on loan

Liverpool currently have a number of their players out on loan deals across the country from their senior squad such as Rhys Williams, Sepp van den Berg and Ben Davies among others.

However, one player that is currently out on loan from Liverpool’s U23 side is 20-year-old centre-forward Paul Glatzel, who is spending the season with League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

Glatzel, who is a product of Liverpool’s youth system, has made 27 appearances for Liverpool’s U18 side in which he has managed to score 21 goals and provide three assists as well as making 11 appearances for the U23s, scoring three and assisting four.

Unfortunately, his loan spell with Tranmere has not got off to a flying start. Glatzel, who was described as an “unbelievable” player by Reds manager Jurgen Klopp a few years ago, has managed to rack up just one assist and no goals in eight appearances.

Additionally, Glatzel has not featured in any of Tranmere’s six previous league fixtures, not even making the squad for the latest two, which surely won’t be pleasing to the Liverpool fans or anyone at the club who presumably sent the youngster out on loan to get him some regular playing time against senior opposition.

Taking a look at his output on the pitch when he has played for Tranmere, the fact that he has only managed to rack up 0.8 shots per game, 0.4 key passes per game and 0.2 dribbles per game shows that he hasn’t been particularly effective for the team when he has been given the chance to show what he can do.

Additionally, he has also lost the ball on average every 3.5 touches per game, a poor tally for someone who’s played such little football.

In our view, it’s still early days into his loan spell with Tranmere so Glatzel still has enough time to turn his fortunes around and get the most out of his time there, but the player and everyone at Liverpool will definitely want him to be playing regularly throughout the rest of the season.

If Glatzel does manage to get back into the team and get a good run of form under his belt before returning to Liverpool, this could be a big step forward for the player in terms of his career progression and development and potentially a step closer to playing in Liverpool’s senior team.

Rangers fans pleased Lundstram starts

A number of Rangers supporters are pleased that John Lundstram is starting away to Dundee on Saturday afternoon.

Steven Gerrard’s men returned to Scottish Premiership action, following their midweek League Cup triumph at home to Livingston.

The Gers’ form has been a little up and down so far this season and the hope is that now is the point at which they click into top gear.

The league leaders took on a Dundee side rooted at the bottom of the table, suggesting it should be a relatively comfortable day at the office for them.

Lundstram is again named in Rangers’ starting lineup, as he looks to kick on further after his move from Sheffield United.

Soyuncu’s shocking start continues

Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu continued his shocking start to the new season with a dreadful display for Turkey while on international duty.

Senol Gunes’ charges were thrashed 6-1 by the Netherlands at the Amsterdam ArenA on Tuesday night as Memphis Depay scored his first international hat-trick.

The 27-year-old combined beautifully with Davy Klaasen for the Oranje’s opening two goals, with both men taking it in turns to assist the other.

And then things went from bad to worse for Turkey and, in particular, Soyuncu. At the 38 minute mark, the Leicester centre-back brought down Klaasen with a clumsy challenge in the box, gifting Depay the chance to double his tally from the spot and deservedly picking up a yellow card.

Then, the Barcelona forward wrong-footed Soyuncu with a clever bit of play, drawing a needless foul from the 6 ft 1 beast, which resulted in his second yellow on the stroke of halftime.

As per SofaScore, he received a match rating of just 5.2 out of 10, the lowest total of any player on the pitch in the Dutch capital.

And when taking a closer inspection of his underlying numbers, it’s easy to understand why. Soyuncu won just one of his three duels during the 44 minutes he was on the field of play and made just a single tackle and single interception.

He also failed to make a clearance, lost possession five times and committed two fouls, highlighting his dreadful display for his nation.

Soyuncu’s latest high-profile mistakes come after he was at fault for at least one of West Ham United’s goals as they thrashed Leicester 4-1 at the London Stadium before he gave away a penalty in their last outing away at Norwich City.

The Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that his centre-back’s form improves following the resumption of domestic football, with current champions Manchester City set to visit the King Power Stadium over the weekend.

Celtic reporter admits Christie’s exit may have impact on style

Celtic’s attractive playing style under Ange Postecoglou could suffer following the departure of Ryan Christie, according to The Celtic Way reporter Anthony Haggerty.

Christie made the deadline day move to Championship side Bournemouth for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.5million.

It comes despite Postecoglou, who was appointed as Celtic’s new manager in June, wanting to extend the winger’s contract following an impressive start to the season.

Christie’s Bhoys deal was due to expire in January and, with deadline day looming, the 26-year-old was also linked with Bournemouth’s south coast rivals Southampton at a cut-price fee.

Saints were not the only Premier League outfit who raised an interest as Burnley explored the possibility of being able to tempt Christie to Turf Moor on deadline day.

Christie leaves a sizeable gap in Postecoglou’s preferred starting line-up, having appeared in all four of Celtic’s Scottish Premiership fixtures so far this season.

Haggerty admits Christie was a key cog as Postecoglou recovered from a poor start to his reign.

He told The Transfer Tavern: “I think there were machinations going on behind the scenes to try and keep Ryan Christie sweet and keep him on board.

“I think the Celtic supporters, to a man, woman and child, would say it was a no-brainer to try to keep him.

“But he has left and a big part of Angeball has left now because he hit the ground running under Ange.”

Everton transfer update on Markelo

Many Everton fans have been left fuming as a transfer update emerged on Nathangelo Markelo.

According to the official website of the Merseyside club, the U23 player has completed a permanent move to PSV and will now link up with their U23 team, managed by Manchester United and Premier League legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Markelo played in a total of 59 games for the Blues’ U23’s over all competitions, scoring two goals and making a further four assists, but never made a senior appearance at Goodison Park (Transfermarkt).

Still, with the departure of promising youngster Thierry Small to Southampton this week as well, the anger of some Toffees supporters that they keep on losing players from the Academy without looking like replacing them is understandable, as they represent the future of the club.

Celtic receive McCarthy & Forrest injury blow

Celtic head into their clash this evening full of confidence under Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian has picked up the rubble from a horrendous 2020/21 campaign, tossed it aside and made the Hoops look infinitely better.

Their attacking play is a joy to behold and in their last two domestic games, the Bhoys have recorded a whopping 72 attempts at goal.

However, as they play AZ Alkmaar in the second leg of their final Europa League qualifying match this week, they will have to do so with a reduced squad.

That’s because Ange Postecoglou has been dealt a gutting blow ahead of the clash.

According to the Scottish Sun, they will be without both James Forrest and James McCarthy who did not board the flight to the Netherlands.

Suspected injuries are reportedly the reason for their absence and although not regular starters in the XI, it will be a mighty concern for Postecoglou.

Forrest has been a major player for Celtic for a number of years now and has already shown what he can do throughout the club’s Europa League campaign.

He scored two important strikes against Jablonec in the early stages of their qualification campaign while the Scot also assisted a goal against the Czech opposition.

McCarthy is yet to start a match under Postecoglou but his experience may have been invaluable off the bench in seeing out a game of this magnitude.

Having an entirely fit squad is even more important at the moment because of the Old Firm derby this weekend.

If Celtic see out the clash with AZ Alkmaar this evening then it may have given the manager an opportunity to rest players late on with a view to them earning some rest before the Rangers match.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/postecoglou-hoops-bhoys-jenz-larsson-nisbet” title=”Check out the latest Celtic transfer news!”]

McCarthy’s absence is not such a big blow in this case but Forrest is a big game player and could have made a huge impact in both of Celtic’s upcoming matches.

Although the cause of their injuries or the time they’ll spend on the sidelines hasn’t been disclosed, the new head coach will have every right to be gutted.

Leeds: Fans critical of Firpo vs Everton

Junior Firpo made his full Leeds United debut at home to Everton on Saturday afternoon following his summer arrival from FC Barcelona.

But it was a tricky start for the Spaniard – only Kalvin Phillips in the Whites XI earned as low of a SofaScore rating as his 6.5.

Firpo was substituted off on the hour mark for Jamie Shackleton with Leeds trailing 2-1 at the time, having lost possession on 13 occasions.

Leeds were bidding to get off the mark for the new season after falling to an emphatic 5-1 defeat away to Manchester United on the opening day.

And they were playing in front of a sell-out crowd, the largest Elland Road attendance since they were promoted back to the Premier League in 2020.

They did welcome supporters back for the clash with West Bromwich Albion on the final day of 2020/21, but the capacity was limited to 8,000 that day.

Here’s what Leeds fans on Twitter had to say about Firpo’s display in front of a packed house…

How gambling sponsors came into the Premier League

Today almost every team of the Premier League has a betting partner as a sponsor, and you’ll see betting ads both before, after, and during the games of the Premier League. But how did these sponsorships come into the Premier League?

With all the world’s attention focused on the Premier League, different sponsors of the world have a huge potential to advertise their products to all the world. Especially the billion-pound industry of gambling has found a huge potential in placing their names in the world’s biggest football league.

Weirdly enough, the history of the partnership between betting companies and football clubs is relatively short. The first Premier League club to get a sponsorship deal with a gambling company was West London club Fulham. In the 2002/03 season Fulham signed a deal with Betfair, who became the club’s shirt sponsor.

Promoted to all of Europe

Fulham and Betfair’s agreement only lasted one season, but now the door was open. In 2006 Bwin became the shirt sponsor of one of the finest clubs in Europe, AC Milan. When AC Milan won the Champions League final in the 2006/07 season, Bwin was on the shirts of star players like Paolo Maldini, Filippo Inzaghi, Alessandro Nesta, Andrea Pirlo, and Kaká. It served as great international branding for the gambling company, which wanted to promote itself internationally.

Not all countries allowed gambling advertisements, but by being on the shirts of the Champions League winners, Bwin would be advertised all over the world.

International sponsorship deals

The same logic follows today when gambling companies have become one of football’s main sponsors. Especially Asian gambling companies have made their way into the shirts of the Premier League players. It’s a great sign of how international the TV audience has become in the Premier League, when you see shirt sponsors from Dubai, Malta, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Thailand, Abu Dhabi, and Curaçao.

The result has been of great interest to both parties. The online gambling industry is a booming market. Today there are plenty of opportunities for online casino games that would allow football fans to relax after a stressful match. With a huge variety of different spinning casino games. The booming industry has been giving the football clubs new potential for massive sponsorships which has been to the benefit of clubs.

They have gained bigger sponsorships to attract better players in the international battle between the clubs. For instance, Derby County was able to attract the English star striker Wayne Rooney. He was playing with number 32 – simply because the club’s shirt sponsor was the gambling company 32Red. In that way, the company saw a great potential to promote the company with one of the games’ most famous players.
