SAFC fans love Jordan Jones transfer report

Many Sunderland fans are delighted after a report from Football Insider suggested that Jordan Jones is eager to sign for the club permanently in the summer.

The 26-year-old made the move to the Stadium of Light on loan from Rangers in January and has impressed so far on Wearside. In 11 matches for the Black Cats, he has two goals and four assists to his name (Transfermarkt) and has proven to be a breath of fresh for the League One outfit – his arrival has given them the impetus to push for promotion to the Championship.

He is set to return to his parent club at the end of the campaign, but this report suggests that he would be eager to stay upon Wearside rather than return north of the border. The report added that a fee of £600,000 would be enough for Rangers to sanction a permanent sale.

The news was shared on Twitter by @sunderlandafc11, and it attracted plenty of attention from Sunderland supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Everton missing Yerry Mina for Villa clash

Everton’s hunt for European football took a huge boost last weekend.

The Toffees bounced back from a crushing defeat to Aston Villa by defeating an in-form West Ham side 1-0.

Carlo Ancelotti admitted that securing Champions League football was essentially impossible but they are still very much in the race to secure a spot in the Europa or Europa Conference League.

It would be a deserved return to continental action for a team who have looked rejuvenated under the Italian coach.

Unfortunately, their hopes of beating Villa on Thursday night when the two sides meet again has taken a big blow.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-everton-transfer-news-lukaku-leao-bissouma-berge-antony” title=”Read the latest Everton transfer news!”]

That’s because they will be without the services of Yerry Mina when they travel to the Midlands.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti said: “Yerry had a problem on his adductor. It is not a big problem. He tried to train yesterday but he was a little bit uncomfortable. I hope to recover him for the game against Sheffield United.”

The manager added: “Even if he does not play on Sunday, I think he can play in the last two games of the season. He has a really small problem.”

Mina was hauled off just after the hour mark of Everton’s win over the Hammers last time out but they were able to see through the game with a clean sheet.

Having him missing on this occasion will be a huge blow, though.

After all, it could leave Ancelotti with the gutting decision to play Mason Holgate again. The young centre-back endured a torrid afternoon when the Toffees last faced Villa just over a week ago.

Holgate was robbed of possession by Ollie Watkins after turning back towards his own goal which ultimately resulted in the opening strike of the match.

Thus, if the Englishman returns to the starting XI on Thursday evening, he will have to put in a much-improved performance.

Fortunately, Watkins will be suspended on Thursday but with this incredibly tall frame, Mina will be a more difficult proposition for Villa’s attack to deal with.

Pochettino’s caution should see Leeds keep hold of Clarke this month

January has been a worrying month for Leeds United supporters mostly for reasons off the pitch.

The whole spygate saga has had some feeling uneasy as they wait to see if the club are punished in any way, while Jack Clarke has constantly been linked with a move away from Elland Road this month.

According to Sky Sports, Southampton, among other teams in the Premier League, are keen on signing the 18-year-old winger in this transfer window. However, with deadline day fast approaching and a big player having seemingly cooled their interest, things are now looking good for Leeds.

The Breakdown

The Evening Standard reports Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is not fully convinced with Clarke, which will come as a huge relief to Leeds.

The Yorkshire club will undoubtedly fancy their chances of fighting off a side like Southampton but, with Tottenham, it becomes a different ball game.

Given how well the developments of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Harry Winks among others have gone, joining the north London club, who now find themselves among the Premier League elite, will sound like an attractive proposition to another young, talented English footballer such as Clarke.

With a transfer to Tottenham now seemingly unlikely, though, Leeds supporters should be able to rest easy, or at least until the summer.

Whatever the case, Clarke looks set to remain at Elland Road for the time being and, at 18, there is no need for him to rush and force a move, especially when you are already getting a good football education from an astute coach like Marcelo Bielsa.

Ex-Southampton target Hinteregger could cost £20m

In an exclusive interview with The Transfer Tavern, Daniel Pinder, Editor-in-Chief at Get German Football News, has claimed that Southampton will have to pay upwards of £20 million if they want to sign Martin Hinteregger this summer.

Southampton were linked with the centre back last summer and rumours have increased lately with Jannik Vestergaard linked with a move away to Tottenham Hotspur, which could potentially allow the Saints to reignite their interest in Hinteregger.

The 28-year old has been a mainstay in an Eintracht Frankfurt side that are currently in a position to qualify for the Champions League, ahead of teams such as Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Spaking on how much Martin Hinteregger would cost Southampton and why he will likely cost that much, Pinder told The Transfer Tavern:

“Well he’s 28-years old now so he’s just entering his prime, and he’s got a contract until 2024 so I would say you’re looking at a fee upwards of £20 million.”

Frankfurt’s Director of Football, Fredi Bobic, is leaving the club at the end of the season which could cause an exodus of their top players to leave.

If they qualify for the Champions League though, that can convince their top players such as Hinteregger and Andre Silva to stay at the club amidst interest across Europe.

Liverpool fans slam Jota

As Liverpool bow out of the Champions League following a 0-0 draw at home to Real Madrid at Anfield, many Reds supporters weren’t impressed with the performance of Diogo Jota after he was brought on with half an hour remaining.

Jota wasn’t selected to start against the Galacticos on Merseyside despite his fine recent run of three goals in his last three Premier League outings (Transfermarkt), but he still failed to make the desired impact after replacing Ozan Kabak on the hour mark.

Liverpool spurned glorious first half chances to spark some sort of fight back after losing the first leg 3-1 and Jota was introduced by manager Jurgen Klopp to help turn the tide.

Alas, Jota instead lost possession 13 times whilst winning just 2/7 ground duels against Real – all while completing just one third of his dribble attempts on the night (SofaScore).

He was also one of the lowest rated Reds stars with a SofaScore ranking of 6.5, below the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah, perhaps highlighting why supporters weren’t impressed with his cameo.

Some fans even called his display ‘atrocious’ and ‘shocking’ – find all of their verdicts down below.

Moyes is the man to take West Ham forward

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry has urged West Ham to keep hold of manager David Moyes beyond this season, believing he can make the Hammers London’s “leading club”.

Moyes, who joined the club at the end of 2019 for a second spell in east London, is out of contract in the summer and has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

It is a situation that may come as a surprise to some given how well the 57-year-old and West Ham have done in the Premier League this term. Under Moyes’ guidance, the Hammers have ascended all the way to fifth in the table and remain just two points behind London rivals Chelsea, who currently occupy that last Champions League spot.

Overall, Moyes has done a good job in the London Stadium dugout, and Fry believes David Gold and David Sullivan must do all they can to tie the Scotsman down to a new long-term contract.

In an exclusive interview with FFC, Fry said:

“The signings haven’t always come off, but if you’re the owner and you give the manager the money what he wants, it’s probably not your fault. So if they believe in David Moyes, which I think they do, then they should back him and West Ham will be the leading club in London, which will be a feat and a half if that happens.”

Under Moyes’ leadership, West Ham look like a stable side and one capable of challenging for European football.

After making such good progress under the former Manchester United and Everton manager, to lose him now would surely be counterproductive for the club.

Hughton must axe Joao Carvalho this summer

Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest side look set to welcome Joao Carvalho back to the City Ground this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Nottinghamshire Live, who claim that Carvalho’s loan side, LaLiga2 outfit UD Almeria, look unlikely to take up their option to buy clause in the 24-year-old’s temporary contract at the club.

As such, the £3.6 million-rated man is expected to return to the Nigel Doughty Academy this summer, when Hughton will assess whether or not he feels the attacking midfielder has a future at the club.

Carvalho must go

Since arriving at Forest from Benfica in what was a club-record £13.5 million deal back in 2018, it would be fair to say that Carvalho has not quite lived up to his price tag.

So far in his career in Nottingham, the £15,000-per-week midfielder has scored just six goals over his 67 appearances for the club, meaning that each strike has cost the Garibaldi roughly £2.25 million – and that is a figure which does not take into account his rather hefty wage.

Furthermore, having been loaned out to Almeria at the beginning of this season, Carvalho has done little to suggest that he has improved during his time away from the Championship, having scored no goals and registering just three assists over his 27 LaLiga2 appearances, with this average SofaScore match rating of 6.82 only being enough to rank him as the club’s 15th-best performer in the Spanish second tier.

As such, in order to provide Hughton with funds to play with this summer, with the objective of building a team capable of securing a much more respectable league position than the one they will end the current campaign in, the 62-year-old must do all he can to rid himself of Carvalho in the upcoming window, as time very much appears to be up for the 24-year-old whom Joe Worrall once claimed has a “massive” future ahead of him.

Tottenham eyeing swoop for Andersen

According to a report by football.london, Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move for Lyon colossus Joachim Andersen along with other centre-back targets as the 24-year-old excels on loan at Fulham.

Daniel Levy is clearly keen to strengthen in the heart of defence after more rumours surfaced that Jose Mourinho is not keen on Davinson Sanchez.

Andersen, who has been a crucial player for the Cottagers in their battle to avoid Premier League relegation, has attracted big praise this season for his performances.

Tottenham and Levy eye Andersen move

Martin Keown, writing for the Daily Mail recently, even compared him to star Man City defender Ruben Dias – calling him Scott Parker’s equivalent of the Portuguese colossus.

Now, football.london report that Andersen is enticing interest from Spurs as a result of his consistent showings as Levy considers making a move for him this summer.

The 6 foot 4 centre-back is reportedly on his radar as the Lilywhites seek to sign a leader at the back for 2021/2022 – and it’s safe to say Andersen fits the bill.

Speaking to Optus Sports (via The Boot Room), pundit and former Scotland international Don Hutchison raved about the defender – hailing him as a ‘real leader’ whilst urging Liverpool to make a move.

He has also attracted praise from the English press, with Daily Mirror journalist John Cross calling Andersen ‘magnificent’ (Twitter).

Transfer Tavern take

However, while he appears to have the quality, Levy must first reach a practical agreement with alleged stern negotiator and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.

The Lilywhites chairman had to break the club’s transfer record to sign Tanguy Ndombele two years ago after talks with Aulas, and football.london say it will not be straight forward to get a deal done.

Time will tell whether Spurs can sign him in the summer, but the upcoming transfer window looks set to be an interesting one amid unprecedented circumstances caused by the global pandemic.

Newcastle scout Fenerbahce’s Bayindir

Reports by Takvim earlier this week claimed that Newcastle United have joined the growing list of suitors emerging for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who could allow Steve Bruce to say goodbye to Karl Darlow this summer.

It is thought that the Toon sent scouts to observe Bayindir in action against Gaziantep on Monday night, where they were joined by representatives from Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and AFC Ajax.

Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United and several Bundesliga outfits have also previously been credited with approaching Fenerbahce over a move for Bayindir, who the Super Lig giants were claimed to value at £12.5m last year.

The Yellow Canaries’ asking price has since risen in line with the heightened interest, along with Bayindir saving the Istanbul side’s blushes on numerous occasions and establishing a place in the Turkish national side.

Bayindir has kept 12 clean sheets over 34 appearances across all competitions this season, including shutting out Trabzonspor and Galatasaray, while starting all but one of Fenerbahce’s Super Lig fixtures.

His efforts have impressed Oktay Derelioglu greatly, with the ex-Besiktas striker telling Hurriyet last month: “In my opinion, the best squad of the league is in Fenerbahce. But if it were not for Altay Bayindir, the team could have been around 48-49 points.”

Instead, the Yellow Canaries are second in the Super Lig standings on 66 points, four behind leaders Besiktas and four clear of third-placed Galatasaray, with seven games to play.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-newcastle-news%2c-gossip-and-views” title=”Latest Newcastle news, gossip and views!”]

Fenerbahce would be expected to demand in excess of Bayindir’s TransferMarkt valuation of £12m to sell the shot-stopper this summer, but Newcastle sealing a deal against the widespread rival interest could see Bruce land a suitable replacement for Darlow.

Darlow has been backed to quit Newcastle at the end of the season after losing the number one jersey to Martin Dubravka, and has since failed to regain the role from the Slovakian.

Bruce had entrusted Darlow with guarding the Magpies’ net for each of their opening 25 Premier League fixtures this season and proved to be one of the Toon’s more consistent performers, yet was ousted after criticism for his efforts in defeat to Manchester United.

His performances between the sticks even led to suggestions of an England call-up, having started the season with a sublime showing at Tottenham Hotspur and later having been the star of the show to keep Liverpool at bay in December.

The handling of his becnhing angered Darlow and is expected to see the 30-year-old look to force through a move away from St. James’ Park, which would leave Bruce needing to sign cover capable of offering the same impact if called on.

Bayindir may be just the man having been lauded for his importance in Fenerbahce claiming around 20 more points than they would have been expected to claim without the 23-year-old, who commands the goal line at 6 ft 5 and could be a Toon star for the next decade.

Gregg Evans delivers AVFC transfer update

The Athletic’s Gregg Evans has delivered a major update on Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens’ plans for this summer’s transfer window at Aston Villa.

What’s the story?

Dean Smith’s side have enjoyed a very impressive season in the Premier League thus far, finding themselves well and truly in the race for a surprise European place next term.

Evans has now suggested that Villa’s co-owners are ready to help the Midlands club take that next step, with a big summer spending spree potentially on the cards.

Writing in The Athletic, he said: “Lange, known for assisting in the process of buying and selling players on for a profit at his former club FC Copenhagen, will be expected to find Villa some gems of his own in the upcoming windows. There is a different brief now as it’s not about surviving, but thriving.

“Owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are expected to back Villa heavily this summer as they look to bolster the squad. But looking for bargains in Belgium seems like a thing of the past as Villa set more ambitious targets.”

Dean Smith surely buzzing

Wherever Villa finish this season, whether that be in a European spot or just in mid-table, there can be no denying that Smith’s side look every inch of the real deal.

Last summer’s acquisitions in the likes of Emi Martinez and Ollie Watkins in particular have proven to be revelations at Villa Park, and a similarly fruitful transfer window will surely have Villa really knocking on the door of the Premier League’s proverbial big six.

Villa have already shown they can beat some of the best sides in the country when they’re on song – you only have to look at their double over Arsenal this campaign to see that.

The big question Smith will have had is whether the club’s higher-ups see the potential of the team, and whether they are prepared to back him in the transfer market.

That appears to have been answered emphatically by Evans, with Sawiris and Edens firmly on board to make this another big summer in the history of Aston Villa Football Club.

Meanwhile, Villa must unleash this academy talent after his FA Youth Cup display; it’s not Aaron Ramsey…
