وواصل:” نحن أقوياء في الكرات الثابتة لكننا لم نكن اليوم كذلك، قمنا بتغيير طريقة الضغط ولكن لم ينجح الأمر”.

Newcastle are in a dangerous position in the Premier League, and the remaining days of the January transfer window could play a major role in deciding their fate at the end of the season.

It does not take a genius to work out that having better footballers gives you a higher chance of winning matches, and bringing in talent is exactly what the Magpies need to do between now and Monday night.

The Magpies are 18th in the Premier League table and have only won two games all season in the top flight, sitting one point behind 17th-placed Norwich.

Save their season

Signings made between now and Monday could save Newcastle’s season, and one player who could do exactly that is Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported earlier this week that Newcastle are interested in signing the Albanian and have placed a £34m (€40m) offer on the table for his services, although that is believed to be not enough to tempt Thomas Tuchel into cashing in on him.

He is currently on loan to Southampton and the Magpies must increase their offer to snap him up on a permanent deal, ending his temporary stay at St Mary’s and allowing him to join the Toon Army.

Whilst Newcastle have brought Chris Wood in from Burnley, the New Zealand international scored just three goals in 17 starts for Burnley in the first half of the campaign and is yet to find the back of the net in two matches for Howe’s side, meaning he has scored once every 6.3 games this term.

This suggests that he alone may not be enough to keep the club in the Premier League, particularly with Callum Wilson currently out injured. Broja could come in and score the goals to win vital points in the top flight to stave off relegation.

He has seven goals and one assist for the Saints in all competitions this season, starting just 12 matches in the Premier League and Carabao Cup combined. He has scored just over once every two starts for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men, showing that he has the ability to make a big impact in the final third.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards hailed the youngster earlier this month, saying: “He’s fearless, he’s strong, he runs in behind, he can hold it up – just at the age of 20 as well. I’ve been really impressed with him.

“Sometimes when young players go on loan, especially in the Premier League, they come off the bench and he’s bided his time a little bit but when his chance came he took it with both hands. Every time that I watch him play I’m impressed.

“He holds the line by himself, his hold up play, constant threat running in behind, his aerial ability as well. He’s really growing in stature.”

This suggests that Broja offers more than just goals, as he is able to provide the full package as a striker. Richards believes that the 20-year-old has the qualities to be a focal point at the tip of attack by making runs and winning balls in the air, which means that he could be a terrific signing for the Magpies.

They could bring in a player who is able to decide matches with his goals and improve the team’s performances with his ability to link up the play. This is why signing the Albanian predator could save Newcastle’s season, so PIF need to splash the cash to get a deal done.

The Athletic’s Chris Waugh has dropped an update from behind-the-scenes on how PIF feel about Steve Nickson and his work in the January transfer window.

What’s the story?

During a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “What’s been intriguing is just how prominent a role Nickson, as head of recruitment, has assumed. In many ways, it feels as if he is more empowered than he was under Mike Ashley.

“From what I’ve heard, Nickson has dovetailed well with Howe — both Eddie and Andy, in fact, with the head coach’s nephew having joined the scouting department from Bournemouth — and the ownership team are believed to have been more than satisfied with Nickson’s performance.

“Ultimately, though, it will be the call of whoever is brought in to head up football operations that will decide his fate. Before being promoted by Ashley, Nickson had little experience of senior recruitment and the £40m club-record acquisition of Joelinton, as a centre-forward, remains a stick many still beat him with, perhaps unfairly.”

Is Nickson the right man for the job?

While it was perhaps understandable why Nickson played such a big role in the January transfer window given the fact the Magpies couldn’t hire a sporting director in time, questions do have to be asked about whether he is the man going forward.

Is he the long-term solution to Newcastle’s driver for better recruitment and marquee signings? While his work last month was fine enough, the summer will present its own unique challenges, not least the prospect of likely negotiating for higher-profile players and for bigger money too.

Would giving Nickson some of the reins in the transfer market be the right call to make? It certainly seems like a risk to do so, and it’s why Magpies fans may be slightly worried by the fact he appears to be taking on a bigger role than he even did under Ashley.

Surviving in the Premier League this season would open up a lot of doors for the club not just in terms of potential transfer targets, but actually also who they could attract to senior positions behind-the-scenes – not least the role Nickson currently occupies.

O atacante David, contratação do Cruzeiro para a temporada de 2018, está se recuperando de uma lesão na parte posterior da coxa direita. O jogador fará um exame, nos próximos dias, para verificar se houve evolução na recuperação.

Aprovado nos exames médicos antes de assinar o vínculo com a Raposa, David ao chegar no clube mineiro, informou sobre a lesão. O médico do Cruzeiro, Sérgio Campolina, no entanto, afirmou em entrevista ao site do Globo Esporte, que a gravidade da lesão era maior do que o que tinha sido informado. O doutor ressaltou também que atualmente o atletaestá sem dor na região lesionada.

– Quando ele se apresentou, estava com um desconforto na coxa (direita), por causa da lesão muscular no Vitória. Ele fez uma avaliação inicial no clube dele, o Vitória. Quando ele chegou aqui, como de praxe, o atleta informa uma lesão. Foi feito um aprofundamento, entre aspas, da gravidade com lesão. Viu-se que é uma lesão muscular mais importante do que havia sido informado, mas é uma lesão que, no momento, ele está sem dor nenhuma. Ele está em tratamento fisioterápico, e o que agarrou um pouquinho foi a questão contratual. Para assinar contrato, ele precisa ser aprovado nos exames médicos. Ele foi aprovado, mas tinha a ressalva do tratamento da lesão, que foi o que agarrou um pouquinho – disse o médico cruzeirense.

Na próxima quarta-feira, David fará um novo exame. Caso seja constatado que ele não teve a evolução desejada, o Cruzeiro vai avaliar se devolve o atleta para finalizar a recuperação em Salvador. Entretanto, Sérgio Campolina acredita que o atacante dará uma resposta positiva no exame.

– Muito se falou da lesão, mas ele tem evoluído muito bem, tem respondido bem. O atleta está envolvido no tratamento, tem feito tudo que tem sido orientado a fazer. Então, ele está respondendo bem. Ele continua fazendo os exames periódicos. Essa semana tem um prazo final na quarta-feira, que é o prazo para fazer a ultrassonografia, justamente para perceber se a lesão está tendo uma evolução que a gente tem acompanhado – disse o doutor.

Sérgio Campolina explicou que mesmo com a melhora, David ainda não está liberado para trabalhar no campo. A falta de cicatrização na coxa direita também tem impedido o jogador de fazer um trabalho mais intenso.

– Normalmente, essa lesão tem uma média de 12 semanas para ela estar estável, cicatrizada, que é quando você faz uma transição para o campo. Quando ele estará liberado para o técnico. Geralmente, quando você tem oito semanas, o atleta já está com estabilidade nesse músculo e já progride para um parte física no campo. Então, em 12 semanas, em média, ele está livre para o técnico, caso queira, coloca-lo em condição de jogo. Agora, ele está com seis semanas, vai completar a sétima semana agora.
