We’ll try and bat for as long as possible, and if we can get a lead of 100-150 runs, it will be tough for South Africa on this wicket in the third innings.”The pitch is still good for batting, there are hardly any rough areas on it. Maybe there will be some uneven bounce from the third day.”

Everton are in a vulnerable position this season and have now found themselves in the relegation zone following their defeat in the Merseyside Derby, however, despite the struggles the club are still linked with transfer interests this summer.

What’s the latest

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Calciomercato), there are several Premier League clubs interested in signing Torino player Wilfried Singo, including Everton.

The report suggests that the club could make an offer for Singo, competing with Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Leicester to secure his signature this summer.

Better than Iwobi

The 21-year-old has been performing at a high level for his Italian club, and has been deployed in predominantly a right midfield position this season but can also play right-back.

Singo, who was hailed a “revelation” by journalist Matteo Bonetti, has become more of an attacking threat for his Serie A team this season scoring three goals and contributing four assists, winning the majority of his duels (58%), making 1.6 tackles and 1.4 clearances on average per game, proving he can impose an attacking threat as well as providing defensive qualities.

With that being said, the Ivorian national could be the perfect upgrade for Alex Iwobi this summer following a disappointing stint at Goodison Park over the last three years.

Iwobi has only scored seven goals in 91 appearances for Everton, and despite playing on the left compared to Singo on the right, the impact in comparison that the latter could provide for the club would be huge if he can emulate his performances for Torino on Merseyside next season.

Frank Lampard has been giving Iwobi his second chance in the team since arriving in January, becoming a consistent player in the team and despite scoring the winner against Newcastle United last month has otherwise not positively impacted the team to secure safety from relegation this season so far.

Everton may have competition to sign the in-demand £13.5m-rated star, and it could be much harder to add Singo into the team if they drop into the Championship this season and Premier League clubs make a move for him. Therefore, the Toffees boss will need to work hard to make sure that he can secure top-flight football in the remaining games.

Desde que voltou à presidência do Corinthians, Andrés Sanchez segue sua filosofia de apostar em contratações de vários jovens que têm se destacado. Para o elenco profissional, o maior exemplo é o atacante Matheus Matias, de 19 anos, que estava no ABC. A estratégia não é apenas para o elenco principal. O técnico Fábio Carille, embora não queira ter um elenco inchado, aprova o planejamento da diretoria. O treinador disse que o clube ainda buscará mais jovens que estão se destacando nos estaduais e negou que a chegada desses jogadores atrapalhe na rotina de treinamentos.

– O planejamento é o mesmo. A ideia do presidente é de trazer seis ou sete jogadores jovens. Não atrapalha nada o dia a dia. Todos que chegaram vão ter de passar a conhecer melhor o clube, não tem nada de diferente – disse Carille.

Com novos jovens na mira, o “pacotão do Andrés” deve crescer até o fim deste primeiro semestre de 2018. É a estratégia do presidente eleito em fevereiro, e Carille diz aprovar o planejamento.

What’s the talk?

Mark Douglas Tweeted that “The big announcements are coming at #nufc” with a link to his INews report, which states that PIF are looking to build the club sustainably and will not be immediately eyeing superstars or ageing gems like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.

The report claims that Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta are both ‘viable’ targets for the Magpies heading into the summer. It also states that they are looking to make key appointments behind the scenes, including a sports nutritionist and a sporting director – with Douglas expecting these ‘big announcements’ to come at some point. 

Eddie Howe will be buzzing

The Toon head coach will surely be buzzing with these claims for multiple reasons.

Firstly, he will be excited by the prospect of the infrastructure of the club being improved upon with several key appointments being made.

A nutritionist can help to improve the fitness of his players to get the most out of them over the course of a campaign, whilst bringing in a sporting director will have a big impact on what they can do in the transfer market as they will have an expert working with Howe to get the right players in to build a winning team.

The ex-Bournemouth boss will also be delighted with the potential signings of Nunez and Paqueta as both players would be exceptional additions to the squad.

Nunez has scored 25 goals and provided four assists in 21 league starts for Benfica this season. This shows that he has been a consistent goalscorer for the Portuguese outfit, at the age of 22, and can join the Magpies to improve their options at the top end of the pitch.

Howe would surely love to work with the young attacker as he has shown that he can perform in the present whilst he has the potential to improve further at his young age.

Paqueta, meanwhile, has been superb in Ligue 1 for Lyon. Bruno Guimaraes’ ex-teammate has averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.14 in the French top-flight, scoring eight goals and providing five assists from midfield.

He has shown that he can perform to a high level on a consistent basis in a top European league, which suggests that he can be a big player for Newcastle in the Premier League. His pre-existing relationship with Bruno also means that it could be a smooth transition for him as he will already know how his compatriot likes to play, which is why Howe will be buzzing with him being a target for the club.

Manchester United are attempting to hire their next manager to take control at Old Trafford this summer with Erik ten Hag the clear favourite for the challenging role, however a new update has emerged in another set-back for the club.

What’s the word?

According to Mail on Sunday’s Chief Writer, Rob Draper, Manchester United have now got some competition to secure the appointment of the Ajax boss.

In a report for the Daily Mail, Draper wrote that a leading Bundesliga club are also interested in hiring ten Hag this summer, and there are many issues that need to be resolved before he considers a move to Manchester at the end of the season.

Supporters will be fuming

Ten Hag has been the clear front runner and favourite to take over from Ralf Rangnick for weeks now, and losing the manager to another club this late in the process would be a devastating blow that would surely leave Man United supporters fuming and disappointed.

The Ajax boss was originally linked with the job leading up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being sacked, but the manager committed himself to see out the season with his Dutch side, so after a long wait for the appointment it will be a widely unpopular outcome if the United board and the Glazers don’t seal the deal.

The Red Devils have had an abysmal season by their standards considering they finished second in the Premier League last season. They have crashed out of all competitions and will enter their longest trophy drought in 40 years, so the addition of a manager like ten Hag with a winning mentality is essential for bringing back trophies to the club.

He has won two Eredivisie titles and impressively took Ajax to a Champions League semi-final in 2019 to name just a few of ten Hag’s achievements at his current club, and the supporters of Man United will surely be desperate for him to emulate his success with their side too.

The powers at Old Trafford must do everything they can to keep the deal on the table with the 52-year-old manager as it would be a disaster to lose him to another club and go back to square one in their manager search.

Chasing 171 for their fourth win of the season, the reigning champions started day four on 58 for 2, needing another 113 runs.Veteran Australian left-hander Michael Di Venuto passed 50 for their seventh time this season to help his side clinch a six-wicket win, sealed just after lunch. Di Venuto fell before the break for 63 off 123 balls but Dale Benkenstein finished with a calming, unbeaten 41 off 119 balls.Durham have now gone three points clear of Lancashire in the Division One table, both teams having five matches still to play. Phil Mustard’s side are 27 points behind leaders Nottinghamshire and Lancashire 30 points adrift, having lost their first match in 21 fixtures.Durham’s next three matches are at home to Yorkshire, away to Somerset and at home to Notts, all three teams being above them in the standings. Lancashire still have Notts to play twice and also travel to Somerset.It was pretty obvious that Glen Chapple would start the day by bowling left-arm spinners Gary Keedy and Simon Kerrigan in tandem and the visitors had added 22 runs to their overnight score when the latter bowled nightwatchman Mitch Claydon for eight in the 12th over of the morning.Keedy, who took seven wickets in the first innings, was causing problems and had a couple of lbw shouts turned down against Di Venuto. Keedy then claimed his 10th wicket of the match – a feat he has now achieved six times in his career – when he had Di Venuto brilliantly caught by a diving Croft at mid-wicket to leave the score at 132 for four.Ian Blackwell (20 not out) survived a dropped catch first ball by Mark Chilton at short-leg off Keedy and the visitors needed 29 more after lunch. Paul Horton also spilled a tough chance at slip off the bat of Benkenstein on 36 with the visitors needing 10. That proved to be Lancashire’s last chance. Keedy (3for 60 from 32 overs) finished with match figures of 10 for 128.
