O importante é que seja um bom desempenho coletivo para que a gente alcance as vitórias.

The PCB has released the bowler just for the Twenty20 tournament, to manage his workload and make sure he remains in the best shape for Pakistan’s forthcoming tours. He was cleared after appearing in a two-day fitness test and will be applying for his UK visa next week.Junaid sustained a fracture of the patella during the Twenty20-leg of Pakistan’s series against England in UAE in February and has been out of action since then. When Jimmy Adams arrived in Britain, the country was gripped by a cold snap that brought snow to the garden of England. With the mercury having jumped 15 degrees, Adams declared t-shirt weather for his first day as Kent’s new head coach.His task is to raise the temperature among Kent supporters. Kent have slumped from title-contenders at the turn of the century to second-bottom of the pile last season: the third-worst finish in their history.Charged with reviving one of the most famous counties, Adams is unconcerned about what has gone before. “There is lot of history here,” he said. “But I’m sure every county would gladly roll out the history books. A lot of fantastic players have come through this club; I wouldn’t use that to burn the players.”Adams plays up to all the stereotypical impressions of a laid-back West Indian as he slumps against a wall inside Kent’s indoor school, but it belies a determination to get things done. “I’ve got to get stuck in, nose to the ground,” he said. “There’s a lot of work to be done – in a good sense – we’ll try to construct something here that will hopefully bring us results.”The environment and culture around the squad is something that Adams seems keen on, getting the values and discipline right to be able to get a young squad working for each other. This focus endeared him to Kent chief executive, Jamie Clifford, during a three-month recruitment process to replace Paul Farbrace, who has since moved on to Yorkshire’s coaching staff.”Jimmy is quite big on culture. He’s got a very clear idea about how he wants the cricket part of the club to run which is what we wanted: a clear sense of direction,” Clifford said. “He is coming into this role fresh, he’s never had a county role, so we’ve got the chance to freshen it up. Jimmy stood out from what was a very strong shortlist; there were some guys on there with quite strong coaching pedigree and big names in the world of cricket.”Having survived a thorough recruitment process involving psychometric testing and independent interviewers, Adams has the chance to make his name in coaching with his first major role. He had been technical director for Jamaica, a role Adams describes as “a bit of everything” with all the cricket programmes running through his desk. He thinks that all-encompassing experience will lend itself well to county cricket.”At this stage in my life I’ve mixed it pretty much with every age group over a period of time,” Adams said. “There a lot of talent here but I’m just happy that we have lads that seem to want to get better individually and would like to be a part of a successful team. Once that attitude is there, it makes my job a lot easier, instead of trying to push people you’re trying to hold them back.”Kent’s squad has undergone significant change with Joe Denly departing for Middlesex and Martin van Jaarsveld retiring. Mark Davies, Ben Harmison, Charlie Shreck and Mike Powell have all arrived. But the man who Adams says everything revolves around has been at Kent for 24 years: captain Rob Key. His experience and leadership will give Adams the chance to focus on developing Kent’s crop of youngsters – including England Under-19 captain Adam Ball and batsman Daniel Bell-Drummond – than immediate results.”There are a lot of intangibles when you talk about the game of cricket,” Adams said. “The opposition might just outplay you totally but in that three or four days you might have made progress along the way, depending on the players that you have.”Kent begin their new season at Headingley against Yorkshire, who were relegated from Division One of the championship last season and who are strong favourites to bounce back immediately. Faced with such a stern opening assignment, Adams’ reduced emphasis on winning from the start might yet prove advantageous.

Samit Patel, the England allrounder, is aware that issues regarding his weight and fitness are likely to remain throughout his international career but he is determined to show that he is worthy of a Test debut during the series against Sri Lanka.Patel was handed his first call-up to a Test squad as a replacement for Eoin Morgan, following a productive few months in the one-day set-up. He could yet be considered for the first Test in Galle although team director Andy Flower said Patel still had “significant work” to do.”Fitness is a key factor and everyone has to work hard on their fitness – some more than others,” Patel said. “It’s probably an issue that will stay with me, but I’m not frustrated. The more work you do, the better you feel. Hopefully I am doing the right things now.”Patel is competing with Ravi Bopara for the No. 6 spot vacated by Morgan – unless England change tactics and include Tim Bresnan as the allrounder – and his chances could depend on whether England continue with the combination of two spinners and two quicks they used against Pakistan in the UAE. Monty Panesar made a successful return to the team with 14 wickets in two Tests, and it would be a harsh decision to leave him out, while Graeme Swann remains the No. 1 spinner despite a less productive series against Pakistan.”I’m ready to come in and bat where I’m asked to bat and do the job with the ball. I’m comfortable with the role I’ve been set,” Patel said. “It’s a massive boost for me, having never been in the squad before, and I’m very excited to show everyone what I can really do and take any opportunities I’m given. One of my goals is to play Test cricket. I’ve always wanted to do that as well as one-day cricket. I want to play all formats for England.”One of the issues that will confront not just Patel but the whole England squad will be adapting to the hot and humid conditions in Sri Lanka. It’s more humid, the heat is more oppressive … but they’re not going to focus on that. They’ll focus on their skills with the bat and ball, and in the field. That is what can hopefully bring us out ahead of Sri Lanka. This is not an obstacle to us, not something to be feared. We have to see it as a challenge.”England’s top order is under pressure going into this series following their failure in the UAE during the 3-0 whitewash. They were often rendered scoreless by Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman and Mohammad Hafeez, and spin will again play a central role in this series. Although Sri Lanka’s attack doesn’t possess the same quality as Pakistan’s does, the pitches, especially in Galle, should offer assistance.”Our skills didn’t match up and we were thoroughly beaten by Pakistan,” Gooch said. “That’s tough to take but you have to take it on the chin and think how you move forward from there. We have to work hard on technique and also on thinking patterns – how are we going to score our runs?”Our players are capable of improving their performances against this type of bowling and being a lot better than we were against Pakistan. Only time will tell how much of an improvement we can make.”

Tamil Nadu entered the Ranji Trophy final for the first time in eight years after gaining a massive first-innings lead against Mumbai, setting up a summit clash with defending champions Rajasthan. The visitors declared mid-way into the second session on the final day, after the lead had crossed the 500-run mark – more than enough to bring curtains down on Mumbai’s season. In reply Mumbai survived some anxious moments, losing both their openers inside seven overs, before both teams agreed to call off the match before the start of the mandatory overs.That Tamil Nadu had assured themselves of a final spot was known last evening, today’s play a mere formality. Mumbai, on their part, had only the proverbial pride to play for. Balwinder Sandhu, playing only his third first-class match, led the way for Mumbai with his second five-for in the match. Sadly, Sandhu was the only man who showed the fighting spirit. That Mumbai were in complete disarray was confirmed when they struggled to bat out a total of 44 overs (29 plus 15 mandatory) once Tamil Nadu had declared.After the pair of Kaustubh Pawar and Onkar Gurav had failed to lay a platform in the first innings, Mumbai changed their opening combination, with Abhishek Nayar – who is not a regular opener – walking out to open with Pawar. For the second successive time Pawar failed to impress, as he played away from his body to an outswinger from J Kaushik. S Badrinath, at second slip, completed an easy catch. Kaushik shared the new ball with Yo Mahesh after L Balaji cooled his heels in the dressing-room. Balaji later said he wanted to give the youngsters the chance to lead the attack and they did not disappoint.Nayar threw caution to the winds as he raced into the 20s, playing some powerful drives. But Nayar’s strokes lacked conviction – his retort, seemingly, was driven more by disappointment. Soon enough, it brought his downfall. When Kaushik pitched short into his ribs, Nayar swivelled immediately to pull. He had rushed into the shot, failed to time it well and ended up skying a high catch that was pouched safely by Sunny Gupta at midwicket.Tamil Nadu were now toying with Mumbai’s batsmen. With twelve overs remaining after the tea break prior to the mandatory overs, the visitors bowled slow bowlers from both ends – left-arm spin of Aushik Srinivas and part-time of spin of M Vijay. It was also a smart ploy to tempt someone like Suryakumar Yadav, who might have turned heads with attacking batting this season, yet has disappointed by his failure to adapt to the situation.Having moved swiftly to 33, Yadav jumped out of the crease to launch Srinivas out of the ground. He had failed to reach to the pitch of the ball, and ended up offering another easy catch. There were only six overs before the start of the mandatory overs at that point. Both Nayar and Yadav, Mumbai’s best batsmen this season, floundered today and played with abandon when the situation demanded them to be more responsible.Strangely it was a day that started and ended on the same casual note. Vijay, the overnight centurion, had all the time and the right conditions to make a big century. He had picked up easy runs in the first ten overs of the day, against the old ball. But in the second over after Mumbai opted for the new ball, Vijay swung his bat wildly against an away-going delivery from Sandhu, which had pitched back of length. It was a bad swing and miss. Next ball Sandhu smartly kept the length fuller, but shaped it outwards again. Vijay once again flashed his blade extravagantly. This time, the outside edge went to Hiken Shah at first slip.After lunch Sandhu moved the ball prodigiously, using both conventional and reverse swing, keeping R Prasanna, the first-innings centurion, vigilant. Circumspect, he went after a straighter delivery outside off stump only to play into the hands of gully, where Pawar dived to his wrong side to claim a brilliant catch.Sandhu snagged his fourth victim when Sunny Gupta needlessly attempted an audacious heave, but lost his leg stump. Sandhu got his maiden ten-wicket match haul when Balaji could do nothing much with a half volley, spooning an easy return catch into the Mumbai seamer’s hands. Sandhu had bowled tirelessly in the second session, bowling thirteen overs on the trot, and persevered to earn the honours. If there was any positive for Mumbai, he was it.
